I know its simple to post a question and wait for experienced users to respond, but believe it or now, when you look for the answer youself on the forum, you end up learning more than what you originally were looking for. So browse around, do some searching, and educate yourself. You'll be glad you did.

Well first off...the mevi...which has butterfly valves that open up...similiar to that of a 00vi....are not even close to what youre talking about....those provide slightly mire hp along with full power range through redline...i would find it hard to image just by a port n polish job on the oem intake that would be the case...maybe more power but the cutoffwould still be the same i would think...

ever heard of the golfball dimple theory? porting would help the oem manifold flow better, but polishing not help airflow into the engine, you can port the inside and polish the outside for bling....polishing would only be benificial to the exhaust port on the heads.....

and do some searching, theres threads proving that the 00vi flows better than the mevi, it makes better midrange as well... but alot of people have cold start issue with the 00vi, not with the mevi.....and the mevi is 100% bolt on,and the 00vi requires modification....

Also, i read that the 00vi also has an idle problem. That it won't idle at the 700-800 range

Some do, some don't.

Mine has no idle problems.

A good amount of 00vi problems are because the installer overlooked something or half-assed the install.

OP, if u looking for an answer as to what mod is better, that is something only u can answer. MEVI direct bolt on, less power. 00VI requires mods but more power and money. Ported and polished IM, nowhere near the power gains.

And SEARCH man, lotta good info here and in the motor section.

Sounds like a problem to me, if people are wasting their time on 3.0's why not work with the USIM.

You cannot make long runners give you top end power.

End of discussion...

One would spend hours on welding and cutting when it would be easier to use the VQ35 im with port matching. It has bigger and shorter runners(flows way more volume of air than the usim).

Essentially "polishing a turd"

I had stock idle with the 00vi. If you do it right, you won't have problems. Plus the MEVI gives stock idle as well, still a better option than modding the usim.

I'd want to fool w/ USIMs cause they're cheap and vast, I'm almost sure there's a better way to peak HP in the 5ks with some work... Again, this was all in the past when before I learned the error of my ways (more like limits of my financials)

U hit the nail on the head. That is the only reason to try to mod the USIM.

look into what sparks03max did with his stock intake manifold, obvious his is 3.5 but maybe trying something along those lines would work IF you really want to make a usim flow nicely up top...i do think you'll spend alot more time and money trying it,versus just getting an 00vi.....i pulled an entire 00vi setup(upper, lower,tb,injectors, rear valve cover, rear coils, fuel rail, egr guide tube,etc... at the junk yard for 100 bucks..... but again im sure some sort of shorten length runners with a big air "chamber" like sparks did is a good place to start.....
