Will Cattman Y-pipe for 1998 Maxima pass emissions testing?

I don't want to buy a system and then fail the test here in Rhode Island. I also don't want my local shop to laugh at me and kick me out the door.

So if I get a complete Cattman system, will I flunk emissions testing or not?

Hope you can help.

u shd pass emissions.

Noise is another matter tho. Get a muffler w/ a removable silencer on it for inspection time.

What if I get the entire complete Cattman system, from y-pipe through catback to the tailpipe, including the muffler?

Will it pass emissions AND will I have a noise problem?

I'm not looking to race; I don't want to sound as if I am racing; I just want a solid system. I can get a Cattman complete stainless system for about the same price as the parts that my local shop would have to charge for some (but not all) of the system.

And I don't want to look for another shop that might offer better prices on parts. The folks I use are pretty good at diagnosing problems. Other folks charge less, but fix less as well.

So if the Cattman system will not heavily increase the noise, and will pass emissions testing, it looks pretty attractive.

Leave it stock if you don't like noise, chances are with any kind of catback system there will be some "noise"

I am also from the lil' Rhody. Trust me from personal experience. Some (not all) inspectors will fail you if they know that there is no CAT on the y-pipe and there is supposed to be. Just make sure the y-pipe don't throw a code, that's all.

As for noise, "Any noise louder then factory -DB is a automatic failure..." according to the DMV/state, but if it's reasonable and NOT Civic sounding/annoying the inspectors usual don't say anything.

On the side of things, where are you located? I'm over in Woonsocket.

I was worried about that too on my 98 in Arizona, it not only passed with the stock cat converter but also even after I changed it out to the random tech hi-flow cat with no problems. Luckily since the car was lowered inspectors couldn't get their mirrors under to check for the y-pipe cat
