Poll:fully synthetic vs. conventional
you need to read and be quiet noob. i've seen horror storys with high mileage engines and synthetic, any little leaks became much worse and engines in a couple max's got really hot. i speak from expierience and from what a nissan master tech told me. its hit or miss with synthetic if you have high mileage, period.
I've been using Mobil 1 Full Syn in my 95' SE since I got it 3 years ago at 196k, never a problem. I went through the whole 9 yards, Seafoaming, cooling system flush and all just for the hell of having it done. I got a little better mpg nothing miraculous, and a noticeably smoother idle, never switching back...Gonna switch my Taurus to M1 soon...
The question should not be whether synthetic is better, it is. People should ask themselves if the difference, especially considering cost and how you take advantage of it with longer change intervals etc, is worth it.

I made the switch from dino oil to Mob 1 about a year ago, in that time my car has started having a few seeping leaks from the cam sensor and more recently from the rear main seal. I also used BG MOA a few oil changes ago to clean it out a bit more. I don't believe the synthetic caused the leaks I'm sure they were there all along but since I've cleaned out A LOT of the gunk that has built up in the last 118K miles they have become more apparent. Will I switch back to regular? No, to me it's worth running a cleaner engine and just keeping an eye on the oil level (which I do anyway) and making sure the leaks don't get worse.
im just curious where you found that information. i always use royal purple but if its going to cause more harm than good ill stop so far i have been confidently spending 9 dollars a quart for it
I believe i've mentioned this before, but I've seen engines that used Mobil 1 since new with 150+ thousand miles on them torn down, and they cylinder walls still had visible crosshatching, and the other parts such as cam and crank bearings still looked new, and everything was squeaky clean looking. Not a sign of any sludge buildup, anywere. Even the oil pan was clean. This sold me on Mobil 1, and every car i've had that I used synthetic in has been Mobil 1.
Idk where he got the info about the seals and such, but I have read independent tests where the RP isn't as good in wear and maintaining it's viscosity compared to other synthetics out there.
