REPLACE CROSSMEMBER BUSHINGS QUESTION

planning on replacing the 4 (four) rubber crossmember grommets / bushings / insulators soon and have some questions. does the crossmember have to be completely removed in order to replace the bushings or is there a way to fanaggle them in/on without unbolting the motor mounts & dropping crossmember completely? i'm planning on replacing with new oe stock rubber ones and maybe doing sub-frame collars also. fyi, i have lca's (acdelco), tie-rods (moog), front struts (hp blues), strut bearings & boots (oem) either in hand or on order.

Why not just wait till you do the Motor Mounts, think it will be a b1tch to try and do it with the bolts in the MM...

It's only 6 bolts.....

Not that hard to drop the crossmember on paper...

The hard part is not stripping, breaking, damaging the bolts or threads going into your radiator support/subframe.

Just use a lot of PB plaster, heat gun if available, and no air tools.

The engine can be supported by the other two mounts... Hell I've left the motor in the car w/ one mount for an extended period of time (NOT RECOMMENDED).

You will need to use a jack to line up the crossmember again though, I would not use the screws to bring the crossmember up to the chassis.

thanks all. i'v been leaning toward trying to partially un-bolt all 4 crossmember bolts, while engine/trans is supported where they join, and then fully remove either front or back 2 bolts completely and see if i can wiggle those 2 in. then i'll partially re-bolt those & do the same for the other 2. maybe i have other issues though...while i was looking at it yesterday i saw the dreaded lower radiator core support rust. it didn't look too bad yet but i'll remove splash shields over the next few days to get a better look. i'll take some pics & try to figure out how to post them here (or maybe on a new thread).
