Ahhh, The Joy Of Street Racing

Tonite, on my way to my friends house this pretty little purple civic cruises past me going about 45 and iwas going 40. we get to the next traffic light and i show him i wanna run...light turns green and we both go.

he got the initial jump cuz i wasnt sure if he was actually going. but i slammed the gas and ate this civic si. from what i could tell he had a muffler and probably an intake and it was automatic. i'm auto 95 with an intake only and i had an extra battery in the back seat.

VICTORY IS SWEET!

All Civic Si's are 5-speeds, I thought.

Anyways, good kill. I ate one today myself!

sweet. good past time fun. but c'mon. civics aren't really worth it unless they're heavily modded.

well i doubt it was a new 170 horse si , purple?
im not sure if the older si's (93?) came in purple, and if u said it was an automatic, not that you could be completely sure...si is a 5 speed.
but hey, a max getting a win isnt a bad thing. its a good thing.

i spotted a new eclipse v6 on the opposite direction of my highway and i turned to follow him (it was a drive in the middle of the nite for no reason so i had time) he had a foot tall wing that belongs on those gt racer supras and high power cars- it was SO HIGH it was over his roof. closer examination revealed that he was missing a muffler..dont know what to make of it. but it didnt increase the noise level like a straight pipe would. we got caught in a pack of cars so i was going to jus head home, but after a few minutes of stalking him (he was a fast driver) we caught a red light. without lookin over, i waited , when it turned green, it was a hesitation but when i revved he took off so i matched him. when i drag, i dont consciously do it , so if i tried i coudlnt tell u how i drove, did i redline? did i stomp the throttle? i dont know- but we were DEAD even up to the end of third when he pulled by about 3 feet at most- it was minimal but i coudlnt figure out why but i kept up still then we called it quits. we caught another red and i looked over and he nodded so we got a good takeoff this time , i heard that chirp into 2nd that i love and all was well until this truck carrying cars came out into my lane way up ahead so i threw my hazards and it was done.
this is the second time i ran a eclipse new model and theyre cool..the first time was on the parkway at about 100mph. IT WAS THIS OLD GUY IN A RED MITSU..go figure.
oops ..this was long.MY BAD! watch out for those trucks!

How come I never get the opportunity to street race? I'm always looking for it but never get it? The only time I get to race is on the highway and I dont really like that cuz speeds get well over 100 and its not good.

all civic si's are 5speeds and are only available in like 3 colors - so if u see a green si......you kno what that means I heard that the new si will be coming out later on this year.......and its gonna be 180HP stock, and considering its so light, its prolly gonna give the maxima a run for its money

here's the low down on civic si's, the 2000's do 0-60 stock at best in the HIGH HIGH 7's. they have a puny 160hp which is awesome for 1.6L but its still only 160hp backed up by a mere 100ft/tq, its a B!tch and everybody can romp on them but they think they are the shizznizzle because they drive a civic"SI"

Right, a "puny" 160HP, but how much do they weigh? 2400 lbs? maybe 2500? So you're saying a car with 30 fewer horses is no match whatsoever for the Max, even when it weighs a full *600* lbs lighter??!! He'd have to pack 3 extra big dudes in there to even it up, *then* he would lose pretty badly.

Come on, man, I'm just saying look at the whole story, not just HP.

regardless, stock for stock they arent worth racing. a heavily modded si would be worth it only is what people are trying to say

You know torque matters a lot too.

You're right, we should look at the whole story.
Civic Si weighs 2580lbs. With 160hp, that's around 16.1 lbs per bhp.
4th gen Maxima SE weighs 3014. Assuming 190hp, that's 15.8 lbs per bhp.

So, the max has a better power-weight ratio. And has nearly double the torque of the Si (111 vs 205)

No, they're not a match for a Maxima. The fastest 0-60 time I've seen is 7.7, with a 1/4 in the high 15's. A stock auto could take them.

They're fast, alright. For a CIVIC

Finally someone who knows what they are talking about. Thankyou for posting all this before I had to, just to correct all the things people "heard" about Civic SIs.

The only problem is the times, granted many many civic SIs run high 15s and even 16s stock with moron drivers. I however ran my friends civic SI to a 15.3 when it was bone stock. So with a good driver they can be pretty quick.

I've heard from alot of guys on here that even the newer Si's are not fast at all and wont give the maxima any run...Race one and see...there slow

No civic is fast unless it has headers or turbo or S/C

Actually I know a chick shes 16 and she has a red civic Si that is a automatic but she had the trans. switched over. She also has headers, exhaust, projecters, and intake. The new 2002 civic Si is actually a hatchback with 170 HP but it is lighter since it is a hatch back.

i hear u man, everyone says civics are so slow, but the si's given the right driver are pretty quick, but given a good 5spd driver in a max, it shouldnt be any contest, i think the ideal run for a civic si is 15.3 while an ideal time for a 4g max is 14.6-14.7 so it makes sense, but the civic si will defintitely give a stock auto maxima a run for its money. hard to get NA power out of the special hondas i.e. civic si, integra type r etc... they dont have too much power hidden so i think a modded auto max would take an equally modded si.
