Trunk and Alarm Keyless Remote Reprograming

Ok, now I know that someone is going to say you should have searched, but I did and I didn't find anything to help me. You see, I recently purchased an additional keyless remote and it came with instructions on how to get the lock/unlock function to work. I did this, and the remote works fine, but is there any way to reprogram the trunk and alarm buttons also? I tried pushing the trunk button when the key was in ACC position, and I was careful not to unlock the door, by just sliding out the window. Anyways, this didn't work, and I have no clue on how to reprogram the panic button so that it goes off when I hit it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Oh yeah, and I already went to http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max_faq/

No one knows how to reprogram the trunk opener and the panic button the Max? Oh well I guess I'm gonna have to pay the dealer to reprogram it for me.

I don't have the answer, but kind of remember when the key is in ignition and turned to some position, some function doesn't work and I think it's designed that way. I'm at work now but will try things out after I get home.

Well I tried with my two original remote controls. Both tell me this:
when key is out of ignition, remote trunk release and door lock/unlock are independant of each other, ie. I can release the trunk with door locked and alarm on. But when key is in the ignition, no matter at which position, both trunk release and door lock/unlock are disabled.
I think this operation is normal. If someone can verify that's great.

........

This is probably a wasted post but have you held them down...for a sec. or 2 to see if that works?

Good point, you have to hold down the button for the trunk for like 2-3 seconds before the trunk will open. Same for the panic button.

Yes I did. I know I have to press and hold it to release the trunk. However with key in the ignition, now matter how long I press and hold the button, trunk doesn't pop open. I think it is a good design. When key is inserted in ignition, car is normally going to start and drive, and the trunk should remain closed, even with driver accidentally hits the release button. But the release button on the driver's armrest always works. It can also be explained: with normal body movement it is not easy to accidentally hit the armrest button; when it is pressed it means driver DO want to open the trunk ...
Sounds like I'm supporting all Nissan's design.
BTW mine is 96. Could it be different from year to year?

I was reading in the owners manual for my 96 SE and it specifically says the keyless entry/remote will not work when the key is in the ignition. It kinda sucks. I don't have remote start, so I have to go to the car every morning and start it with the key. I would like to take the remote off the keychain so I can start it and arm the alarm so no one takes it but it won't work that way. I have to get the spare key and lock the doors from the outside with the key when the car is started. I'm assuming this is what's happening with your trunk button. HTH
