99 clutch problem, clueless
99 clutch problem, clueless
VIDEO ON POST #4!
So my 99 clutch has always been annoying, having a small leak somewhere so i have to constantly put brake fluid in the little container for the clutch, so i can actually use it, last night it did the same thing only the clutch was a bit softer than normal and when i pulled over to put the fluid in there was a puddle of the fluid on my splash guard and on the ground, and the clutch wouldnt work after that. we sort of located the leak by putting more in an found where it dripped, its at an easy location but i still have never dealt with this stuff before.
What the heck do i do now? Im pretty good with my car, ive done everything to my car myself including repairs, but ive never done anything with the trans or clutch, so im immediately lost.
can i replace the part that was leaking and do i have to bleed something like i do when changing brake lines. I just dont know where to start in this situation, maybe you guys could point me in the right direction??
Anything will help!!!!

Can you tell us what part is leaking? It's either going to the master cylinder (where you are pouring the fluid), the line going from the master to the slave, or the slave cylinder (mounted on the bell housing). Yes, you can replace the part is leaking.
You can either replace that hose with an OEM one or replace it with a stainless braided one. When you go to bleed it I'd suggest getting a hand pump vacuum bleeder if youre doing it all by yourself.
Get stainless steel and have only one bleeder.
Or go oem and have to bleed both lower then upper bleeder valves. Start with the bottom one closer to where the slave cylinder is and then move your way up to the upper valve. Always keep an eye on that fluid level.
Used this photo from the .org when I had to bleed my system.

Picture is very helpful, with stainless which one do I bleed? you said I only have to bleed one. Where can I get a stainless line to fit exactly

And bleed from the lower bleeder, the upper bleeder will be rendered useless and can be removed.

I think this is the one you want.

this was the point of my post. The first link does not state one piece, I believe it only replaces the upper and utilizes the upper bledder as well.
Well I don't have time to buy one online but will use the links as reference web I go to autozone or nappa, I'm attempting to repair it tomorrow probably by myself. So we will see how it goes, thank you everyone for your input thus far
Ok so no one has that line, or anything like it, the long one replaces the whole thing?? Getting rid of the upper bleeder too?? From the fill up cylinder to the slave cylinder right?
when my lower hose was leaking, I was only able to find a new one at either the dealer (which I did not choose) or online (I think I used partsgeek.com).. bleeding is also a challenge, best to use something that sucks fluid and air out (like Mityvac tool).
Hey guys I really need some help and insight so I bought a 99 maxima about 2 months ago I really haven't been driving the car aggressive or doing any burnouts and the clutch started going last week so I bought a 6 puck clutch and had it replaced. None the less on my way home the clutch felt a lil low to me so I decided I was going to bleed the line. I cracked open thw top bleeder thats on the strut tower and my clutch pedal sank and will not come back up at all unless I pull it up with my hand I changed my slave and tried bleeding the slave and master cylinder and not for nothing my clutch pedal will come up everytime I pull it up by hand and push it down it just stays down I really need some help thanks.

First thing I would do is replace all the OEM clutch to slave hydralic plumbing with the one piece stainless line from link below:

Chance are the flexible parts of your present clutch line are leaking/failing. Also, +1 on an earlier post that suggests using a hand vacuum pump to bleed system - it's a LOT easier than the two person pumping the pedal method.Good luck.
