Axles will not seat in Quaife LSD HELP!!!!
I had my transmission shop install my quaife a couple weeks back. They would not finish the job because the rear main seal was leaking. I had the car towed back to my friends house and we replace the seal and reinstalled the tranny. The problem I am having now is the axles are not seating all the way into the diff. There is around a half inch gap between and axle and tranny but it will not go in any farther. I thought i might of needed an lsd axle so i order one and that also did not work. The lsd seems to be working. I started the car and put it into gear on the lift and both wheels turn in the same direction. There is also up and down movement in both axles and I feel if any torque is applied it will destroy the diff and axles. I also replaced both output shaft seals and passenger side is leaking like a sive. Anybody had or have a quaife installed or another lsd with this similar problem? I am going to give quaife a call on monday if I can not get this figured out before then.
thanks all

Open diff axles are what you need plus a mallet. Put the axle in as far as it will go and tap it with the mallet until it completely seats. If mallet does not work move to a hammer, if that doesnt work move a small 5-10lbs sludge hammer. Dont swing the hammer, tap it. It will go in, axles are difficult to get in and pull off by my nature. Everybody's are, Quaife, VLSD, or open diff, i have experience with all three.

Seems to me that that little clip ring would not be the issue. My friend and I both gave it quite a few hard taps with the sledge and it not even move in the slightest. We did cover the splines and opening with gear oil to help it seat better but it is like the axle is hitting a stone wall.

Just make sure you have the right axles. I have ordered axles and they would give the wrong one until I physically took the old axle down there and matched it verses what they had in stock. This would be hard to do if this is the first time you are putting axles in the quaife.

The LSD is used with about 12000 miles on it. I have tried the LSD axle and my original axles and neither seem to be going in.

get some with better light than that, that will help. is that the dust cup on there? if so, it looks like it is basically right up against the seal where it should be, but hard to tell in that light.

problem has been alleviated. The driver side is good. The passenger sides seal was just pushed in to far. Removed the seal put a new one in half as far and the leaking stopped. Drove the car around but now its skipping a little in second and third gear. I am thinking its spark plugs. It does have 159,000 on it. I have replace them at least once maybe even twice since I bought the car with 55,000 miles.
