i experience a small jerk or thump in the engine while i'm waiting at a red light while in the regular "D" position. it could almost feel like the bass of a music beat...something of that sort, but it isn't...i know it's in the engine. are there any major problems? what can i do? it's really annoying to feel this on a maxima...thanks!

 

i had the same problem for a while. It started when i changed my spark plugs. It ended up to be a bad Ignition Coil Pack. $70 at a local Nissan dealer. This is after i went to 4 mechamnics and 400+ dollars.

 

This is interesting. Even if you know you have a bad coil, how do you figure out which one it is?

 

well, when i originally pulled out the coils, one of the rubber boots at the end of the coil got stuck at the bottom around the spark plug. So i just started out with that one and luckily that was the one that did it. I mean you can buy one for the back of the engine (longer coil) and move it around, then buy a shorter one for the front half and play around with that. Hopefully you will get lucky like i did. Have you done the 60K tune-up yet??

 

No, my '99 GXE has only 19K miles and is running fine. My question about "how do you know which coil is bad" was for curiosity only.
