FPR screw

I went to replace my FPR, and of course both screws cammed out. The top one came out easily with vise grips, but there's no room to get a pair on the bottom one. I couldn't get an extractor to work, and I'm running out of ideas. I really don't want to have to pull the UIM and take the fuel rail off. Has anyone found a better way?

Get a hammer and screwdriver and hammer the driver to make it loose. From the impact of the hammer the screw will loosen and will be able to turn.

When you get it out I would suggest using SS allen head bolts on the FPR and injectors...I hate phillip head screws!

It's too late now, but you should not have attempted to get those soft brass screws out with a normal screwdriver. I recently swapped out my FPR last week. Below is my story that I copied and pasted here. It also gives you the correct hardware to replace it with.

I swapped out the FPR with another used FPR. Oh what fun that was getting those soft brass screws out. I didn't even attempt to use a normal screwdriver; I went right for a ratchet with a phillips bit attachment. While one hand pushed down on the end of the ratchet, my other hand pushed the back of the ratchet into the screw as hard as I could. I got them out w/o too much trouble, but could tell the brass screw heads were slightly stripped due to how darn soft they are. Went to Lowes and bought replacement hardware with allen key heads so I'll never have this problem again. For those that care, the size you need to replace the two brass screws holding the FPR are M5-0.8 16mm. Don't forget to pick up some M5 lock washers too.

thanks, 97. I have another idea I'm going to try this weekend. If that doesn't work, I'll go with the screwdriver and hammer.

When I put it back together, I put a hex head back on the top. You can't quite get a socket over it though. I had to finish it with an open wrench. I'm going to look for something like an allen head screw for the bottom.

This is another one of those places where I curse the designers. How much more could it have cost to put usable screws in there?

Hex heads don't fit as you've discovered. You need the circular head with the allen key as I've previously mentioned.
