Hi,
I have a 1995 Maxima and up until yesterday the car has operated perfectly. Last night I decided to go to the store and when I got in the car went through all the typical start up procedures. Started the car, put my foot on the brake, depressed the button on the left side of the shifter but at this point the shifter would not move and won't go in to gear. I'm hoping someone here can give me some direction as to how to fix this or where I should start looking. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

 

Ignition switch, Ive had this issue with my car for several years, I usually just take the palm of my and push shifter forward, then retry, nothing major there. Just work out parts. Mine does it about every month or so. Easy fix

 

Maybe not your case...I had this happen when a coin was stuck in the shifter locking mechanism.
