cooling fan question?
1999 Maxima, almost 200K.
Love the car, but ...
Earlier today, after driving around on the freeway, A/C running, came to a stop and glanced down at my dash, noticed my heat was 3/4 of the way up after parked for a few minutes with engine and A/C running. It usually is rock-steady at 1/2 way up on the gauge, so ...
It was sounding a little rough in the idle as well. Popped the hood and saw that, with the A/C running, the passenger side fan was not moving at all, but the driver side fan was running. Left the car parked for a few hours, started it back up and heat was down, ran fine, idled fine, heat stayed rock-steady at 1/2.
I'm in southern Arizona, so earlier when it was overheating, outside temp was 90 degrees, but when I ran it later outside temp was about 75. Looked around and didn't see any loose or messed up wires. Don't know if this is new or if it's finally getting hot enough outside for me to notice this. I kind of think it's a new development, but not sure (who pops the hood to check if their fans are working on a regular basis?).
Is there a module I should look at? Is it easy to test/replace fan motor? Or due to age and miles, should I say to heck with it and replace the whole darn double fan assembly thing (have a reputable company on eBay for only $70 or can go to local O'Riley Auto Parts for $135).
Thanks for the advise and group knowledge!

Try jumping the fan clutch. Just connect 2 wires from battery to the fan plug terminals and see if it turns on. If it does you know the fan is working, if it doesn't either get the whole fan assembly with both fans or what I did was just got the fan motor from a junk yard and has been working fine ever since

Both fans are wired together, so they should both run at the same time. Since the other one runs, it's not worth the time or effort to test it. Just replace it and be done.
I used the one sold by autozone, part # PM9114 for $60.
