CV boots & axles

Just put Import Direct axles in 2000 SE/5 spd. (nice pieces). Will use 303 aerospace protectant on the CV boots.....we'll see.

axles look & work great......Rock Auto sent (2) mis-boxed Timken seals.....trans oil leaked.....back to shop for redo passenger side. Rock tried to charge me partial shipping for their subcontractors packing error (Timken seal-made & mis-boxed in Taiwan). I told Rock I will cancel the VISA. You're not charging me for your error.

I own a 2K 5sp Max lowered with adjustable BC suspension setup all-around... I was in the motion of moving to Mississi****ty and my OEM passenger CV axle started clicking bad so I replaced it with o'Reilly's "Import Direct" CV axle... Long story short it broke off clean in my wheel hub in less than 6 days before I hit Nevada state line. Mind u i did have it under a load and my ride is slammed plus slot of internals so maybe too much torque but in any case thank God for AAA and family in Vegas.. My opinion, OEM is the best option... But prepare yourself for vibration and clicking with torn boots if ur lowered and decide to have the car packed with extra weight. Ended up junk yard pulling OEM CV AXLES in New Mexico and Texas before I got to MS and still went junkyard OEM on the Gulf Coast... btw make sure u get the exact same model if u search a junkyard trust me, some come with the dampener and some don't, just take note of the one u originally pull off..! Good Luck..!

CV boots & axles

Thanks Conner
My 2K 5spd SE stock ride height OEM suspension...Scotty Kilmer says "never lower or jack/change axle hub angles, it'll break" . Import Direct s look nice/ sound quiet. Will use 303 protectant on boots. Recommend U re-establish stock suspension.
good luck
Ted

I've had good luck with National seals. I have compared them to OEM. They look identical.

Checking in 3 years later. Here's some pictures of the different axles.

Notes on which product is running where.

99 Maxima SE 5-MT - Passenger side is running the Super Axle (OEM Boot on GSP axle with Omni Lubricant grease) - Driver side is an Import Direct.

Car is running H&R lowering springs with Koni STR-T struts.

I see dirt and grease. Are you slacking off? LOL

Other than the bellows/boots, which look real similar, any differences in axle performances, vibrations or noise?

No vibrations from either. Both very smooth at high speeds. All holding up good on the 99 and 98 models. The GSP would be ready to blow the outer boot by now. One less thing to worry about.
