P/S Hose Copper Crush Washers?

Does anybody know what the ID size is? Can't find it anywhere. OEM from Nissan with shipping for 4 is approaching $20. (49726-Y0100)

That's just too much Butt Hurt for me!

Looking to source the right size without the label at a reasonable price!

Thanks!

I would go to the local hardware store, or home depot, or Lowes. Take the old washer with you.
match them up. Close is good enough.

Also, it's possible to anneal the washers you have.
Annealing basicly expands the metal and makes it soft again. I have done this with copper washers in brake systems.

Look up the process on you tube under heading annealing copper washer. Or annealing copper.

I get a propane torch, a lighter, a block of wood, a flat surface, some 600 grit black sandpaper, (or similar), and a needle nose plier.

hold the washer with the plier. So that most of the washer is exposed. Heat the washer with the lit propane torch till it is glowing bright red. Then place the washer on the wood. Let it cool off a little while. Till it is safe to touch.

I suppose that a gas kitchen stove burner would work as well, perhaps an electric stove burner might work if the washers were placed directly on the burner coil. Turn it on High.

This process expands the copper crush washer and makes it soft again. The wood is an insulator, which lets it cool slowly.

Next, place the sandpaper on the flat surface. Rub the washer on the sandpaper with your finger, like in a two inch circle. This removes any surface irregularities. Rub till shiny. Do this on both sides.

This takes less time than a trip to the store.

Free is a very good price.

The part number you posted is for quantity of 1. There are 4 of these washers used in total. The suggested list price of one washer is $4.03 at the dealer, $2.85 on line. It sounds like you are replacing all 4, which is the best thing.

Thank you gentlemen!

I went with dsonnylal's source! I have a new hose and I want it to be done right and final!

Finally, no more aftermarket hose whine!

I'll post the I.D. so others can shop for substitute washers at a reasonable price.

So I received the OEM Nissan High Pressure Power Steering Copper Crush washers today part number: 49726-Y0100

They measure ID: 16mm, OD: 22mm and they are 1.5mm thick

The 1.5mm isn't that easy to find but 2mm is. Look for 16x22x2mm Copper Washers. An extra 0.5mm a washer won't compromise anything

Amazon has a 20 quantity offering for $3.65 shipped:
Amazon Amazon

I paid almost $12 for 4 OEM shipped. Screw THAT!

And why am I making it harder than it needs to be?

I'm 57 and this is the first and last set of 4 of this size I will ever buy. Whenever I bought Brake Hoses (different size) they came with new ones as did new or rebuilt calipers.

And I wanted EXACT.... Not something close.

I have enough boxes of assorted nails and all kinds of consumable fastening hardware from all kinds of trades. You hold them and next time I'll get them from you. LOL

There won't be a next time.

I put that info up so people who are in the same boat can save money. Dealers are a rip off with these incidentals. And now I see it serves another purpose..... Fodder for ridicule. Shame on me for sharing my work.

PH, do you have a propane torch?

Seriously, a propane torch on those old washers would have put you back on the road, without aggravation or delay.

I anneal washers because it works, and is easier for me to to track down certain ones hich ate not readily available. Or if I want to finish a project after the parts store is closed.

The Q45 and other Nissans from the 1990s use these copper washers for PS line banjo bolts. Some years ago, I learned the hard way on the Q45 there is no substitute for these washers.

Craig and I are like two mad scientists. And as a result, have helped each other make our 4th Gens better. We probably had the same GF somewhere along the way. LOL

Glad you pulled the trigger and will actually use most, if not all of them!

Great attitude.

Some of the forum members make a necessary and serious discussion into what this should be.

Fun as well.

Thanks! I have had the highest level of success when I paid attention to details and used intelligent choices. I really appreciate when I'm about to take on a new challenge and somebody shares the best result practices with me. So, just paying it sideways.
