Emer Brake Cable Replacement - what else needed?

I plan to replace the emergency brake cables... the calipers were done and are functioning well but I still can't take up enough slack to pass inspection.

What parts might be needed aside from the cable themselves? Are there things that usually break when you do this job?

Thx.

Yeah, I'm familiar with my old thread. I couldn't find anything wrong with the current setup - it all works normally. So it seems like cable stretch is the only option left... which leads to my new question as to what else might be needed when replacing the cables.
