P1320 cel
Hi, new to this forum. Have had 3 4th Nissan Maximas in my time. Currently own a 99’ Maxima with 147,500miles.
Check engine light came on three months ago. I got the code read as a p1320 and p0302. I then bought Duralast coils, a left and right ignition coil each from Autozone and using the firing order swapped the 1st and 2nd cylinder coils.
The CEL then read p1320 and p0305. So I swapped the 1st cylinder with the 5th cylinder(hardest to get to).
The CEL then read p1320 and p0305 still.
so I then bought 6 all new RGK Platinum spark plugs. Swapped those out, found the old plugs were burnt up, and I think it was cylinder 2 had oil on the putter side. So new spark plugs.... Do they have a torque spec?????
then I still had the CEL reading p1320 & p0305. so I went to Nissan dealer to have them inspect my car. They changed my front brakes and rotors($450), new CAM sensor and seal ($180), axel seal($180), and check the wire harness for faulty wires($230). I don’t see new wire harness tape on there so not sure if their job was done properly.
still have the check engine light. Code read p1320 and p0304. So obviously my coils are going bad one by one or bad connections.
i then bought all remaining ignition coils from Autozone - the Duralast with warranty. Swapped those out.
code still reads p1320 only.
Did some YouTubing and googling, looks like it could be the aftermarket coils don’t wipe out code.
could be the Ignition Condensor.
can someone point me in right direction for fixing????

These cars don't like aftermarket coils. In particular, the 99 models are famous for ignition coil failure. You shouldn't really have to "blow any money" on it because Autozone should give you your money back.
The spark plug torque spec is 14-22 lb ft. I used 18 when I did mine, but anything in that range is acceptable. And NGK says not to use anti-seize.
Were the other Maximas you had 99 models?
And if there is oil on the old plugs, you should replace the valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals, otherwise the new ones will foul soon, too. Since you have lots of experience with these cars, you are probably good at pulling the intake by now.

thanks for the input. If I don’t have a torque wrench how much do I turn to tighten the spark plugs.
i did use anti seeze on the plugs, does that fully ruin them? Should I pull them out?
will Autozone refund all, now used, coils?
what about the ignition condensor?

Harbor Freight sells "good enough" torque wrenches at 20 bucks or so. The 3/8 size is good for beginners. Any one who works on cars should have one.
spark plugs can be installed so that they are "good and tight", and an additional 1/8 turn. But without experience, you do run the risk of stripping the head. So Get The Torque Wrench.
regarding anti sieze. NGK plugs are supposed to be installed without it.
That said, I personally use a wee bit of anti sieze.
Using too much risks getting some on the electrode. That can cause misfire.
If your plugs or coils have oil on them thats from a leaking valve cover. Too much oil can also cause misfire.

my 99 threw a coil code, mechanic replaced coil with a napa coil, skip went away, cel came back on. mechanic then bought oem coil from nissan dealer, code went away and skip went away 8 years ago, other coils are still good at 178000. plugs were new at 110,000
