Help!! After changing ignition switch car won't start

I have a 95 Nissan Maxima and I recently replaced the ignition switch assembly and now my car will not start it will go to the on position all the lights will light up but then it won't do anything. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The person I bought the car from had a lawn mower ignition because someone tried to steal it. But I could not get my breathalyzer hooked up to it because you could unplug it and the car was still crank apparently, so I bought a new ignition switch had installed now it won't work. I've heard it's the security system and that it needs to be reprogrammed to the new key? I was hoping that this site could give me the answer that I need because I have a two-year-old and I really need my car

If the security system was triggered the lights would be flashing and the horn would be honking. To disarm, unlock the car with the key in door.

Otherwise your ignition switch or wiring is bad. Download the factory service manual at nico club forum and check the wiring.

It's been a while since this subject has come up, but whenever all the dash lights come on and the engine won't crank, I think "slop." Take a look at this thread: https://maxima.org/forums/4th-genera...tion-slop.html

you don't need the original key. It's nothing special.
you just need a key which will turn the door lock and ignition.

I tried the key that came with the new ignition switch assembly and it wouldn't turn .. idk what to do.. it'll crank by touching a wire to the starter and the battery terminal but I'm scared to do that and there again I won't be able to hook up the breathalyzer

Turn the steering wheel slightly in either direction while you attempt to turn the key. That will relieve the binding which keeps the key from turning
