Recently my maxima has developed a small leak along the seam of the transmission. Isn’t too bad at the moment (only a 5 inch by 5 inch puddle under the transmission after sitting for two day, it didn’t even look fresh) but I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want to take it into the shop and have them tell me the gaskets or seals will need to be replaced for something that is fairly minor. I’ve seen that gasket restorer stuff that you pour into the oil and transmission fluid that’s supposed to swell and enlarge the gaskets to help with leaks. Is that stuff any good? Im just scared that the problem will get worse the more I drive it and will lead to bigger problems down the road.

I would not pour that stuff in the transmission. Yes it may be a temp fix but that stuff is hard to get rid of when you dont want it. It could also mess something up.

1. Is it looking oil or trans fluid. Oil would suggest rear main or upper oil gasket. If you do a clutch replacement you could replace them if they are leaking

yeah I think replacing the clutch or gaskets is out of the question. I barely had enough money for the car, let alone money for relatively big repairs. I think I’ll just live with the problem. Cheap cars are expensive.

Axle seal(s)?

Could possibly be rear main seal leaking or axle seal they are relatively close to each other so it can be confusing. To find out for sure, they both have different smells. Tranny fluid will smell like cat pee lol and be a clear yellowish brownish color to it and also be thick.

my dad told me to put a piece of cardboard/ paper underneath it to find the color. Will be doing that later today.
