A/C and recirculation issue
A/C and recirculation issue
Hi,
My car has climate control AC. The AC stopped blowing cold air... feels like it's just blowing outside air. However, I noticed that when I press the recirculation button, there is no increase or decrease in blower noise as there always used to be.
I did the self-diagnostic and observed the lever on the intake door actuator... it seems to move properly during the diagnostic.
I stopped the diagnostic leaving the intake door on the REC position, but the AC still was not blowing cold air... seems like just blowing outside air temp.
During the diagnostic Step 3 of door modes, it gave me 30 which is "everything is normal". However my air mix door is disconnected from its motor because motor is broken, yet it still gave me 30 I don't know why.
The diagnostic BTW only showed error codes 25, 26, and -26. The car was in the garage, and my air mix door motor is broken so prolly thats why I got those codes? I been operating the air mix door manually by moving it to cold position during summer, and half way to hot during winter.
Also in diagnostic mode in Step 5 after it shows the sensor temps, you have to press REC button to go to "multiplex communication error between control unit and auto amplifier is detected", but when I press REC button it does not advance to that step. I don't know if that's normal or is the REC button broken and that is also why it does not work when I press it during normal AC use?
I don't know much about how AC works or where to begin, might end up taking to mechanic eventually, but would prefer to fix it myself. Could these issues that I have be caused by some door somewhere not working right?

At this point you probably have more experience troubleshooting the system than most people on the forum
I'm inclined to believe your AC system simply has a leak or a dead compressor, since its performance shouldn't be drastically affected by switching between fresh air and recirc mode. You can pick up an AC manifold gauge set for $40-50 and check your high and low side pressures. Also check to see if the AC compressor clutch is working correctly; see if it cycles on and off.
