Is it worth putting CAI in??? (Cold Air Intake?)
So people say yes, some say no.

What do you guys think of that???

How much is it, how many ponnies does it add??
If someone wants to show the pic of his CAI, I'll be HAPPY to take a peak!!!!

Thanx!!

CAI is a good low to mid end intake but it suffers high end.

Popcharger is better for mid to high end.

On an auto, you'll notice a slight lag on the low end with the popcharger but it more than makes up for it on high end.

On a 5 speed, you should notice no lag.

Even though I'm an auto, I rather deal with the slight lag and have the top end.

And the fastest NA 4th gens all have popchargers.

But of course, there will be those who will argue that the CAI "feels" faster. Get the CAI if you just plan on driving on city streets and never take your car above 60 mph.

10-15?

Doubtful ... 10-15 is combined with a y-pipe.

You'll get 5 hp tops with an intake alone.

CAI

Ok, and what is the popcharger?? (Coz I don't need the supercharger, too expensive)

I've got the regular cone intake. What it the detail differense between CAI and cone intake(shorty)? More horse? More expensive???
Faster start?

I wanna push my pedal only 5% on the freeway so it'll fly! How can I do it the cheapest way???

The difference is that the filter on the CAI is located in the fenderwell and piping is used to bring the air in. No extra hp and yes, more expensive. Not really sure what you mean by faster start.

I wanna push my pedal only 5% on the freeway so it'll fly! How can I do it the cheapest way???
Sorry, nothing will be able to make you "fly" by only pressing the pedal down only 5% ... not nitrous, not a supercharger, not turbo, nothing.

The PRCAI might suffer up top, but i gave that up for the extra down low growl that it gives off versus the Popcharger or Stillen.

Re: Re: CAI

Thanx for writing back, really don't mean "fly", but I I've ridden in new Acura and it goes like it's very light. Maxima when was new had the same feeling, but now you have to push a little more to keep running on the same speed on the freeway!!! Don't you never notice it on yours?

Hope to hear back!!!

ok, i keep hearing that CAIs suck on top end, so what if you set it up with the filter just past the MAF instead of in the wheel well? would it be better on the top end then?

That is the definition of a pop charger. I'm interested to see if the hybrid HAI makes very much more power over the plain popchager. See Cumalot's thread for a picture of the hybrid.

Why do CAIs suck at the top end? What is the theory behind that? I am not doubting anyone's word here. I am just curious why that is the case (if it is).

To answer the original question though, if you have a Y pipe, the CAI should complement it nicely. If not, get the Y pipe!

Nigel I believe the theory is that since our engines have a hard time breathing up high, (because of the long runners) why make the intake path even longer. Personally I didn't want to drill the hole in my fender well so I just went with the hybrid. It also makes it a lot easier to clean your air filter

my opinion. Buy the place racing CAI intake from Cattman. Install the upper portion with the filter up top, like a ghetto short ram. Take it out use it for a while see what u think. If it does not meet what u wanted, get crafty cut the hole and hook up the CAI and see how that does for you. By buying the place racing you get a popcharger and a CAI. I just switched my PR to a hybrid up top to check it out and right now im loving it. It's like this, if you have an auto, you have to take off at like .7k on the tach, from there till about 2.5 u will feel weakness with the short ram. Us 5 speeders can launch at whatever tach rev we want, therefore getting rid of any lag and only enjoying the top end over and over again. With the cold air you have all that nicely stored air waiting to get shot in when u take off, but after all that air is gone that was waiting, now its vacuumed trying to get air from far away. Automatic will like CAI better, Stick will like hybrid better, your opinion will decide on what u like better, Cai and hybrid both have strong points not makin one better or worse, just more what ur lookin for

I have an automagic with a hybrid intake setup. As far as loss of power in the lower rpms, who cares! When you want the power, just stomp on the gas. When you race, are you going to be in the lower rpms? Exactly! FYI, I haven't notice any loss of power in the lower rpms. NotNew!!NewSN!!, you got a 5spd, so you don't know what you're talking about. So, go sit in your corner.

Its not the fact that it HURTS up top, its still better than stock, but it doesn't HELP up top as much as the POP does.

Are you talking about the CAI from Cattman? If so, then it is the same exact product as the CAI from Place Racing.

And no intake is going to give you 30 hp.

Craig Mack is just being stupid and silly.

i think the only difference between the two (cattman and pr) are the colors, i believe cattman comes standard in black and place racing in silver and blue?

Ok you seem to know something about intakes!
Can you tell me if it's worth buying one, coz I have a cone intake(shorty), should I upgrade it to CAI and will it give more horses then my Popcharger?

Please, I need to know that!!!

NO!

Edit: Of course, this is my only personal opinion.

Edit #2: And no, it won't give you more horses ... and that is not an opinion, that's a fact. And it if there are more horses, it would only be 1 or 2 ... not that much of a difference.

actually they make many colors, just at the current time custommaxima.com only has blue and silver, and cattmann has whatever color, but they can also get you red, yellow, black, blue, silver, and i think maybe even green

I would think without actually finding the area of highest pressure (at speed) at the front of the car you will never optimize the efficiency of the CAI or POP. I am going to get a POP (not sure which one, can someone suggest good vs. price one?) and hook it up. Then hopefully I will have time to measure several point of pressure and decide which will give me the best "ram" effect for better use with minimal bends.

I think the issue is like the other guy said. Its a tradeoff of intake length, bends, air temp, and pressure at inlet. Soundsl ike the POP may be better at higher speed due to high air pressure in the engine compartment when driving. My thought anyway. Peace: e3 - spamman

CAI = You cannot live without one if you have an automatic. You can get between 15-25 HP with a CAI + Ypipe combo relatively inexpensively. The sound is just as good as the HP gain. If you've got a stick maxima, then i'd go with a popcharger (Jim Wolf's good) and a Y.

I'm going to dyno my car next weekend and I am looking for the following for a 95:

Dyno with CAI or Pop Charger with a Y-pipe (preferrably Cattman).

I will dyno my car with the Hybrid next week and while I know each car is different and the conditions may not be the same we may be able to figure some things out and help people see what is going on physically.

BTW: if you are wondering why I don't do all 3 myself, as I do have access to all 3, we are dynoing with a group and the time it would take to switch over would be too much and so it isn't being allowed.

oh forgot to add that I would prefer the dynos to be of 5-spds as that is what my car is.

BTW, anyone know why the editing function doesn't work?
