Maxima bares all!

Anyone care to venture a guess why I usually keep her covered up?

The bumper doesn't fit quite right on the driver side because of a crappy repair job done by a local body shop. They told me it would take two to three weeks to fix. Three months and $4,600 (an advance on my inheritance) later, they return my baby to me crooked! I was pretty ****ed, but I was sooo tired of riding the bus and I wasn't about to give those holes another dime so I just said screw it.

That crap around my sidemarker is a combination of cracks and missing paint that are the result of a late-nite encounter with a small black dog.

So if anyone has a white bumper they'd like to donate...

They aren't still doing business. It is small consolation.

I'm just doing my bumper now. Morons sold me the wrong replacement re-inforcement . Its taking longer than expected but they quoted me $1200 for replacing everything. ie bumper, foam, bracket, fog light + one light housing as well as a matching paint job.

Guess I'm just lucky with my dealership. Honestly though spending $4.6K on your max to get it fix = insurance claim = writing off the car.

I'm beginning to think I'm the only person here who doesn't have full coverage on my Max. Being as how I am just a broke college kid (was a broke high school kid at the time), all I can afford to pay for is liability insurance. So I could total my car and if I am at fault (and I was) my insurance company won't give me jack.

As for junkyard bumpers, I checked sooo many yards. Not one had a Maxima newer than 92. One guy got on his fancy parts finder computer, and the closest bumper he could find was in Denver and would cost me over $400 including shipping. Add another couple hundred to get it painted and it's way out of my price range. I guess I just have to keep pinching the pennies until I can afford to buy an aftermarket one.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to go stir my Top Ramen now.

Eh I dont get it? You spent $4600 repairing your car and a bumper replacement was $400 + painting?

Was there other work involved. Full insurance is better seeing as how much it cost you to repair the max.....

He initially said 2-3 weeks. Three weeks later, I called, he said there were some complications and it would take another week.
Week 4, he said they were just waiting for a few more parts, but it would definitely be ready next week.
Week 5, the radiator had mysteriously sprung a leak after being just fine for eight weeks since the wreck, so they had to order a new one.
Week 6, "it's still on the rack, she'll be ready next week."
Weeks 7 and 8 same as week 6.
Week 9, they found "something else" they needed to change.
Weeks 10-11, they had to put it back on "the rack" (I never did figure out what that was).
Week 12, they had lost a few important nuts and bolts.
Week 13, still trying to find the nuts and bolts. (apparently they never did find them all, I later found five screws and a nut missing from various places) Waiting for paint to dry.
Week 14, still waiting for paint to dry, sent it to some other place to recharge the AC and aim the headlights. I finally got my baby back. That was quite possibly the happiest day of my life.

Be careful with a bumper from a junk yard. If you have the pearl white, it won't match. no matter what. The repair shop that repaired my maxima before I got better be glad I can't find them. The front fenders are different colors and the paint on the hood is chipping off. By the way I have pearl white. And I have searched all around the south east (Yes I am a redneck)and I can't find more than 5 maximas and they have all been stripped. So good luck.

It was two seperate incidents. First, I smashed in my front end and paid $4600 to have it fixed. Later, I took out a dog and munched up the four week old replacement bumper. Salvage yard wanted $400 to get me a replacement (this would be my third bumper).

I agree, full insurance is better, but at the time, I had no income. I was paying for my insurance and gas from a small inheritance from a great grandmother, which was just enough to last me until I went to college (provided that the insurance didn't exceed $120/month) and would have a steady income. I got the $4600 from my grandparents, who were gracious enough to give it to me as an advance on my inheritance from them.

I was actually surprised how good the paintjob looked when I got my car back from the shop. I looked at it from every angle and every piece was a perfect match. However, I have recently begun to notice tiny bubbles forming on the front of the hood. I imagine that they will eventually become chips like yours.
