alternator belt just broke and it was brand new!
Ok, i just replaced my alternator last night and replaced my alternator belt (the belt was brand new). Today comming home from work i hear something flapping and when i get home i look under the hood and my belt was ripping. Any idea why this happen or how? I did accidently get a lil' bit of coolent on the belt when replacing it could this be da cause? I also got some coolent on the pulleys as well.. i did my best to wipe them off but i dunno. Anybody know what happen?
im pretty sure it wasn't too tight.. i used a ruler like the haynes book told me to to check if i tighten it enough..

I dont know if coolant is one of them but some fluids will eat right through rubber paint etc. That could have been the cause. Also check to make sure you did not over tighten the belt causing it too much strain.

ok, i figured out why my belt broke. It seems the alternator this place sold me doesnt have the same pulley as my old one. My old one had 5 "teeths" while the one they sold me has 4. It seems thats whats ripping the belt. They said this alternator came off of a '99 maxima. My car is a '97. I thought the alternators were interchangable between the 4th generations. I swear the worse luck ever this week. Now this happens along w/ da million other things.
