I believe you just twist off the metal clip which holds everything in place, pull out the old mast, slide the new one in, replace the clip and you're done. You may have to turn on the radio before you insert the mast and turn it off to get it to thread and take everything back in. That's how it works on most cars, but I've never done it on the Maxima

There is an antenna mast-retaining nut that you must remove first. It is a bezel nut that you will need snap ring pliers or an antenna tool to remove it. You will need two people for this job. One person controlls the ignition switch and the other holds the antenna mast.

1. Turn the ignition key and the radio to the ON position (this will allow the antenna mast to unwind itself from the motor assembly).
2. Guide the antenna mast and toothed drive cable out of the motor assembly (slowly pull it straight up and out).

To install the new antenna:

1. Insert the antenna cable with the teeth facing the rear of the vehicle.
2. Next, have your assistant turn the ignition key and radio to the OFF position. This will allow the antenna mast to wind itself back into the motor assembly.
3. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal.
