I have a 97 black se(auto).I recently acquired it and i am deciding on what i want to mod it with,so at this time it is completely stock. One of my best friends has a 2000 Ram Air Grand Am.I think it has 175hp.Anyway,his is an auto as well.Anyway,we were both in town and happened to get lined up at a red light. We both started revving, the light turned, and he smoked me.Could this be true? HAs anybody else raced one? If so,did you win? Was mine just mistake on my part? Please,if anyone has any answers,i would appreciate it.

Here's info from Edmunds.com>>

This is for a 2000 Grand Am GT Coupe. "Ram-Air"???? Doesn't exist according to Edmunds.

Performance Data
Base Number of Cylinders: 6
Base Engine Size: 3.4 liters
Base Engine Type: V6
Horsepower: 175 hp @ 5200 rpm
Torque: 205 ft-lbs. @ 4000 rpm

Dimensions

Exterior:
Weight: 3091 lbs.

Looks like your Max needs a tuneup. It should have at least been close dude.

The V6 Grand Am DOES indeed come with a ram air option. I don't have the details but it ups the HP by 5-10. One of the employees in this building has one. But I still can't see one of those beating a Max??!!

The stock new gen G/A v6 is 170hp, the ram air on the GT adds 5hp. The transmission in the v6 grand am is the 4T60E. This is probably the best 4spd auto that any american co. makes. This tranny and its RWD sister the 4L60E are quick shifting and well tuned from the factory. The light weight, good tranny and 205lb/ft of torque could surprise an auto max if he has sticky tires, light wheels and got a bit of a jump on you at the light, over 50mph any max can dust it off.

I had one, and the only thing I liked was that it was quick and the tranny was fantastic. Everything else sucked.

Rented a Grand AM GT once and it was quick or so it felt. It revved really fast and shifted just as quick. Got Sh*ty gas mielage and the governor cut me out at 107 or something like that. ALso didn't handle as well as the MAx. Straight line acceleration gives you a false sense of capabilities in other areas.
