Matching Clear Tail Lights

Matching Clear Tail Lights
Ever notice how even the best cleared tail lights never quite match? I'm talking about the clear reflector within the light that is made from cutting out diffusers for flourescent ceiling lights.
This was just a thought as I was looking at my uncleared tail lights yesterday. Why not remove the clear diffuser for the reverse light and replace it with more flourescent ceiling light diffuser to get them to match perfectly?
I know it is extra work, but maybe some of you have already thought of it and have tried it already.

You know this just came up as I was getting my tails cleared the other day...I think it would look good and may be willing to go the extra mile for uniformity but from more than 5 feet, no one will know they are different...much of the diff is how the texture of the light cover you buy is patterned.

I totally agree with you regarding the pattern of the diffuser material itself. This is why I will do my best to get material that will match the existing when I finally get to doing mine.

It has been done... someone was selling them with all 4 lights cleared for 280 or so at one time or another... looked great though.

I did this to my tails two weeks ago. Took me an hour start to finish. Just open up the inner tails, cut a piece of flourescent cover to fit, and put them back on. Looks great since they match perfect now!!

I am planning on doing my tailights myself soon. In looking at pictures and after buying the plastic yesterday I started to wonder if it would match anywhere near close enough to the inner lights for me. But after reading this thread I guess the answer is to do all four. With that answered my only decision is whether to use an oven, a heat gun or hot water to open them.
I tried cutting some plastic already and I can see I'll be borrowing a Dremel from someone to make it the cutting easier.
Thanks for the idea.
