I read a thread a while ago... i forget who (sorry)... but they were really happy after getting an engine flush and he/she had recommended that it is a MUST to do because it really cleans out the engine and performance is alot better (ie. smoother acceleration)... so i say yea! go for it! it costs about $30-$40 and its worth it from what i hear

Yes, it's definitely worth it. I had mine done at around 58k, I waited too long I think. Someone suggested it should be done every 30k. It costed me about $70-$80, forgot the amount.

i did it
flushing your engine is one of the best things for your car..cause you get all the crap out..and your engine has an easier time doing its thing. You will feel the car take off at green lights..it costs bout 100 but when i had mine done i got my oil changed, and all my fluids topped off and my car inspected.. so i cant give you an exact price....

Did it too!!!
Yeah, I suggest it too. I had my 98 done a month ago, and it ran awesome afterwards. I also flushed the trans (auto) at the same time. We then took a trip to MI, and got 32 mpg (93 octane, 85 mph) average.
The system I had mine done with was Auto Life (Autolife??). Not sure if it's one or two words. The solution that flushes is heated first, and it has two soak cycles, and two pump cycles to really clean the crap out. I only had 39K on the car, but it needed it.
It's suggested if you want to switch to synthetic oil, that you flush first to clean out all the old stuff.
Cost, I believe, is like $90.00 plus the oil and filter. The trans is like $70.00 plus fluid (add up Nissan D fluid at $4.xx per quart X 14 qts to flush and fill...).

high mileage flushes and my experience
I don't know about the carbon deposits and all. I also have a 91 SE, and did it's first flush at 110K. Haven't had a problem with it yet, and that was almost 5 years ago. I've flushed it every other year since, and it runs great.
The oil is still clean on the stick at 2000 on the oil change. I change at 3000. Presently, my 91 is at about 160K.
You guys may be correct about the dangers of flushing high mileage cars, but my experience with a "real" flush has only been good.

You shouldn't do it on old cars because sometimes carbon deposits help seal leaks in hoses and tubes.... unless ure willing to have hoses/tubes replaced. After cleaning all that junk out, u could find leaks

90K high mileage???
Do you guys really think 90K is high mileage for a Maxima?
Some of the guys in the 3rd gen forum are pushing 300K on the original motor.
If you're gonna flush, or change to synthetics, I'd do it before your max is truly high mileage. I personally plan on getting my 91 SE to 300,000, and my 98 GLE up there too before I retire them.

If you do your own oil changes, Amsoil (and others) sell an engine flush that does the same thing - gets the dino crap out of there, and it's less than $5...

My old acura legend had a bit over 110k miles when I did an engine flush. The car ran great for the next few days but then I started hearing a clicking sound from the engine. I went to my mechanic who explained to me why you should never do it on high mileage cars. Anyway, good luck to you.
