How did they get in my car? Are remotes generic?

I went out to my car this morning and the front doors were both cracked open and my interior was obviously rummaged through. They didn't try and steal the car (outside of trying to jam a key from my old car into the ignition, it was in my glove compartment) or steal anything else but still. HTF did they get in? It's got an alarm on it, the doors were locked. I just got the car 2 weeks ago, this is the last thing I need right now.

remotes are generic but they have to be programmed....and you can only have i blieve 2 sets at a time programmed, and the other ones get canceled out.....to programm it, theyd have to be inside your car with the key in the ignition, and wait like 2 minutes for it to program.....maybe you were in a highly drunken state and forgot to close your doors last night?

Nah. First of all I wasn't drunk and I certainly wouldn't get in my car if I was.

Hmmm. Maybe I did leave it unlocked but I am pretty confident that I didn't.

Bunch of savages in this town.....

Waltham, MA. Near Bentley college where there are quite a few .org members. I live in a decent apartment complex, it's a suburb anyway for pete's sake!

I'm leaving a note on the inside of my window tonight......saying "Alarm Broken, watch for owner with shotgun"

Why give them the warning with the note? Just be waiting....

I know. I know.....I think when I turn 25 I'll start accepting some responsibility for my life and do something about that. As of Wednesday I have a year to quit.

Do you have the oem alarm

I always thought that the oem alarm didnt go off when the rear doors are opened while the alarm is armed. Therefore, if this is right they could have slim jim'd the rear doors and hopped in that way without opening the front doors.

Consider yourself lucky that they didnt take the rest of the car.

P_B: They did open the front doors.

Dude you got off sooooooo easy: check my sig pics. I live in a "good" neighborhood in Austin TX (hint: theives don't necessarily care what neighborhood your car is in if it looks like an easy target)

edit: did they actually damage your car in any way? My damage was worth $1400...

Sounds like kiddies (teenagers) did it. I'm sure you left ure door unlocked... they went for the ciggies and anything they could find (glove compartment). They were probably in a rush and didnt notice anything in the backseat. Probably took about 2 min... those fawkers

Justmax I'm sorry to hear that dude. That sucks.

I'll make it a point to lock my doors from now on, especially if I did forget to last night. I have a remote for that, I should be remembering. If they were professionals there's not much I can do about it anyway.

Yes, you should consider yourself very, very lucky. At least they didn't take your rims and tires and leave your car sitting on bricks.
