5th gen needs new exhaust w/rumble, not blare
Advice please. '02 SE w/100K miles needs new exhaust (cat back) and I want a nice rumble, but not loud - throatier than stock but that doesn't attract a lot of attention from cops. Adding a few HP would be nice, too, but not a requirement. Have replaced exhausts before and got that horrible whooshing/hissing sound on full tilt even tho sounded nice idling, and they were sold to me saying "sportier" and much better than stock. Suggestions please?

I have a BRM 3" catback now (and before I installed a turbo). It had a nice rumble and was very deep at idle. With 2 resonators, it keeps the tone low and deep, and has a nice hum when accelerating, but it does get loud with higher acceleration, and does drone in the cabin. I also use a resonator in place of my catalytic converter.
You might be able to get a less noisey tone with 2.25 or 2.5" piping on their website, or perhaps different resonator lengths/combinations.

Yeah, the drone is an unfortunate side effect, but again, I think with a more typical setup with smaller piping, you may not have any drone. The Magnaflow muffler provided with their kit is rather small though.
