Hey guyz, this might seem like a stupid question, but here it goes, I've been leaving my detector on when i turn the car off, is that okay??? Or would it be using the battery??

Thankz in advance...

it depends on your detector. Some turn off automatically when the car is turned off and some dont. Easiest way to tell is if it stays on when the car is off. If it does, then it is using your battery (not good), and you should unplug it. I hope this was helpful.

not a problem

the 5th gen maximas have a feature where the battery automatically cuts out approximately 10 minutes after you shut off the car. I have left my radar detector on for 2 years and I've had no problems. Mine is hard-wired into the dome light. If you're using a lighter plug, I'm pretty sure those don't work on the maximas unless the car is on.

Re: not a problem

the front lighter plug in mine cuts out when the key is turned to off. I believe the back plug, however, stays on all the time.

edit: Nope, checked last night and the back plug turns off as well... I thought it stayed on when I plugged my phone into it but I guess not.

When I start my car, the radar detector turns on by itself, as well as turns off when I shut the car down - No lights appear on the text display of the radar detector while the car is off, meaning it's not recieving any power from anywhere right?????? This is what I'm thinking, someone pls. help me out...

Thankz in advance...

Your amp is probably hardwired to your battery. The car can't turn off the battery, but it does shut off power to most of the car's electrical systems.
