Considering '01 GLE Purchase

I'm looking for a replacment for my '95 and considering a purchase of a '01 GLE, w/AT, 28K mi from a private owner. Drives and looks good. I'm surprised that the orig Toyo Proxes (215/55/16)seem to have little tread left. Don't think the car was driven hard. What is typical tread life of these tires ? Being High-Perf tires, is the tread depth when new not as deep as normal "performance" all season tires ? I have a friend w/ an '00 SE w/17" 50's, which I assume are not long life (eg < 35K).

Also, any other major problem areas to check on '01's before purchase ?

I plan to keep any newer Maxima that I may purchase, "stock" except for maybe some cosmetic chgs.

Thanks. I appreciate everyone's response in the past on my questions. This is a great forum. !!

My Bose has NEVER rattled and I never think it will!
Ok the stock Toyos will get that way at 28K miles, I have 29,568miles and I really should look for new tires, but I guess I'll wait and get new rims too. I'll also have to wait for the lease to end(march), then buy the car.
01' GLE's are nice.

My Bose does NOT rattle either. The Toyos lasted 45k miles! I would make sure the tranny is shifting right, check for a pause or slip in between gears 1-2 or 2-3 shifts. Great car all around!!!
