Help with RSB?

I know there's been several posts about the thumping problems, but I need quick answers and don't have enough time to browse through the hundreds of posts. I put the bushings on the trailing arms in about 1 inch or so from the end of the bar. I put the other 2 axle bushings about 4 inches or so from the bend. I don't get any thumping when going over speed bumps, but I get serious bumping when hitting slopes or dips (no holes) in the road. I did not have a torque wrench, but know about how tight 25lbs is. I haven't put the car on ramps yet as I have to buy some. I borrowed a friends ramps. I don't see any visible sign of ground scraping so I figure it's something hitting the RSB from the car. I have a 2k2. Please help!

I had the same problem. The bushings on the axel are about 5" from the bends in the bar and I've had no problems (they were originally about 2"). The bushing would make contact on the passenger side. Crawl under and compare the passenger side and the driver side and you'll be able to see where the car was making contact with the bushing.

Now that you mention it, the thumping is coming from the passenger side and not the driver side. What is it making contact with? How far in should I put the bushings on trailing arms? Is 25lbs of torque correct?

How far in do you have yours from the end of the bar on the trailing arms?

I've got mine about 1" from the bends. I hear the thumping noise when I go over a bump too fast, on the passenger side too. I hear you're supposed to move the bushings on the rear portion inwards about 4.5" from the bends. I don't think it matters on the trailing arms, I have those bushings set about 1" in from the end of the bar.

good question i got 4th gen u-bolts and brackets and we had to hammer that $hit in. the brackets/bushings fit on the bar where ever it fit on the trailing arm

seriously though, it's probably 1/2" to 3/4" from the end of the bar. i'm going to take a pic of it when i head out tonight and post it up when i get back.

as for the bushings on the beam, i eyeballed the placement on each side so that it wouldn't hit any of the beam's linkages when the rear is compressed.

cheers

That did it. I moved them in about 4.5 to 5 inches and went looking for dips that were causing me problems. Smooth as silk. I also moved the trailing arms from 3/4 to 1 inch in. Being the cheap bastard that I am I didn't buy a torque wrench today. What will happen if I tighten them too much? I think I may have tightened them a little too much. They seemed to loosen up the last time. Moving them in that far also seemed to help to guide the car a little quicker.

1" from the ends is too close, it will thump. If you get under the car and look, you will see that the Lateral Link/Torsen Beam is banging on the edge of that bracket. You will need to move it to clear when the suspension is moved upward when you hit a bump.

They are referring to the Addco RSB not the Stillen. The brackets that attach the Addco to the axle are bumping. Stillen doesn't have any components that attach to the axle.

I had to hammer the crap out of mine also. I'm gonna call addco today and have them ship me the correct pieces and the pieces that were missing.
