Thanks. I've already gone one colder and there really isn't much difference. I'm not sure if I'll get fouling with another, but before next summer I'm going to try going colder.

I'm going to keep dropping until I get the timing to 8° with NO pinging underload and 91-octane OR fouling, whichever occurs first.

What's with my dealer?

I decided to go ahead and try the timing advance in my car based on all the positive feed back in this thread. I called my dealership yesterday to make sure they had a Consult and to try to set up an appointment. The guy I talked to said that changing the setting with the consult is pointless because the ECU automatically changes it back as soon as you disconnect the system. WTF!? How ridiculous is that? Why would the Consult have a way to change the timing if the ECU would change it back on its own? If that were true, why would the Consult even have the option of changing it? The guy didn't even sound like they'd be willing to try it just for the hell of it. The next closest dealership is like 30-40 miles away. It sounds like everybody else on here has techs at their dealership that are like "That would be cool to try". Mine's like "We set them from the factory the way Nissan recommends and we don't really mess with them" I just irritated now. Anybody else run into this at their dealer?

Today its almost as if the timing is being retarded.. (loss of power)..

Wehn i first advanced it 3 degrees, i felt more power in the lower end.. however it seems the engine has learned something and tuned it back..

ITs weird sensation.. When i floor it in 2nd or 3rd, it bogs then accelerates.. this never happened before so i don't know whether it was because of the timing advance.

Sorry to be digging up old threads, but someone in a current thread linked to this one (http://forum.maxima.org/showpost.php...0&postcount=99). Anyway, there was never any update/resolution about what caused the loss of power. Does anybody know what the problem turned out to be? Thanks.
