Rotors Cut Under Warranty (2001 Max)

Just wanted to let everyone know that dealers will cover warpped rotors under warranty...just have to know how to get them to do it.

I have noticed brake judders for the last 5k miles(car has 23k on it now). I took it to my local dealer, first they said it's probably a wear/tear situation, when I insisted it's the rotors and that they should not be warpping at 23k they advised that if the rotors are warpped, they will cut them at no cost. But if they are not the cause of the problem and it is a wear/tear situation, they will have to charge me $99.00 for the inspection. I did not find that to be a satisfactory answer and I called the Nissan customer service telephone number. I explained the situation and the customer service guy gave me some mumbo/jumbo about dealerships being privately owned and Nissan has no control over them. I stressed to him that my famiy has owned 5 nissans in the last 15 years, finally he agreed to pickup the cost of the brake inspection and gave me a file number to take to the dealership. Just found out the dealership will cut the rotors and replace the pads under warranty.

BTW, I own a 2001 Maxima SE...to all the 2001 owners, call the Nissan customer service and get this fixed under warranty.

Be courteous and stick to your guns that the rotors are the problem, not the wearing out of the pads. Before you call, make sure to check that the pads are not worn out. No matter what they say, just keep repeating to them that rotors should not warp at 20k miles.

Been through that battle too many times with Nissan and I'm tired of it. My rotors were cut 3x's at no charge but the problem kept coming back anyway. The rotors are garbage, just swap them out when you have the cash.

I just upgraded my brakes over the weekend. What a difference

I plan to do the same thing, just buying myself some time with Nissan cutting the rotors today. Hopefully this will get me to next summer and I can afford some nice aftermarket rotors.

What kind of rotors/pads did you go with?

I had brake judder problems since mile 1. Had the Brake Judder TSB done at 11k. Had to have it done again at 35k. Wanted it done before no longer covered. Dealer gave me a hard time. They said they only do it once, then I have to pay. I called 1800Nissan1, who got the dealer to do the fix for free. This fixed the problem for a short while. At 40k the judder was back and worse than ever!

At 35k, Service Manager said I abused the brakes because they were blue. I don't race the car and have never had to replace brakes on ANY car before 100k. I do 95% highway driving. If the rotors are blue, it is a manufacturing flaw, NOT abuse!

At 41k, I got tired of the Nissan-crappy rotors and replaced front rotors/pads with Stillen X-drilled and Metal Matrix pads. Now at 56k. No sign of judder.

I had the brake judder at 11k. Dealer resurfaced the rotors without a problem. When the judder came back at 20k, my dealer replaced the rotors under warranty without being asked. They said that's their standard practice. No problems with the brakes since then.
I guess I have a good dealer, huh?

Update:

Dealer cut the rotors on Monday, no brake judders now. The service manager insisted that I let him know right away if the judders come back...he promised to replace the rotors if it happens again.
