Installed New Speakers...

i just installed new speakers...6 1/2" in the front and 5 1/4" in the back...fits nicely...front and back are the polk audio..GXR

i used the scorse Toyota 2000 and up speaker brackets and it fits nicely...two of the three holes lines up perfectly with the door...the other hole..i just stick a piece of napkin between the brakcet and the door to make it tight...

i got one question though....i had to splice into the speaker wires...what are the chances that the wires will come loose..??

I'll give the napkin 2 weeks before it falls out and it starts rattling.....

What kind of connector did you use? If you used the simple, clear ones and a good set of crimps, then you will be fine. I actually prefer to cut the wires than use the factory speaker harnesses.

Did you make sure the speakers are all in phase (positive/negatives lined up correctly for EACH speaker)?

on the factory bracket it has three screws...but the bracket i used only has two holes that line up with the holes on the door...so i only used two screws to tighten it...and its really tight...it doesn't move around...

Why didnt you just modify the brakets from the stock speakers like i did? Simple and easy. All i did was rip out those cheapy cone speakers.

Did you change anything other than your speakers? If you only changed out the speakers, does it sound any better? The reason I ask is, I would love to improve the sound of my system without spending much money on a new head unit, amps, etc...

i did modify the stock brackets..but it was easier just to use the brackets i got...

i used 5 1/4" in the back because a lot of ppl on this forum was telling me that 6 1/2" would be too big to fit in the back...

i only changed out the speakers...it made a lot of difference..the stock speakers are made of paper...

Whoever told u that 6 1/2" dont fit in the back is full of ****. LOL! That is the funniest thing i have heard. You can go as big as 6 3/4" all around the car. I found that with the after-market brackets, you would need to drill the door itself! That i was not going to do so i just modded the factory equiptment. My install looks professionally done and flawless of errors

without modding it won't fit. I bet if you try, you can get a 10" to fit in the doors

5th gen with Bose:
Front: 6 3/4
Rear: 5 1/4

5th gen NON-Bose:
Front: 6 1/2
Rear: 6 1/2

You MUST mod a 6 1/2 to fit the Bose system or else it won't be big enough.

Re: Installed New Speakers...

Why didn't you just use the brackets that were in there. I got 6 1/2 speakers in both front and back. I left the original clips on the ends of the wire and the original clip on the speaker. So if I want to go buy some stocks to put back in I can just snap the wires together and it looks stock.

Crutchfield says for the 00-02

I know they can't always be right, but at least you can send them back if they don't fit.

Front Door:
6-3/4", depth up to 2-3/8", and a height up to 1-7/16" will fit.
Rear Door:
6-3/4", depth up to 3-15/16", and a height up to 1-7/16" will fit.

Anyone try fitting the Infinity Kappa 652.5i in the FRONT doors? It's got a 2-7/16" depth. I mean 1/16" can be had with a spacer right?

Otherwise, I'm going to get Kenwoods' KFC-Xr701. Any opinions on which is better? I'm partial to Kenwood Excelon, but my sub is Infinity and I usually try to keep at least all the speakers the same brand.

SPECS:
Infinity Kappa 652.5i
--Sensitivity 90 dB
--Freq. Response 45-21K Hz
--Recommended Power(RMS) 2-75 watts
--Peak Power Handling(RMS) 225 watts

Kenwood Excelon KFC-Xr701
--Sensitivity 92 dB
--Freq. Response 30-70K Hz
--Recommended Power(RMS) 2-50 watts
--Peak Power Handling(RMS) 200 watts

Go to www.crutchfield.com (NOT the magazine). You will have to choose Bose or no Bose. The correct sizing is what I listed above.

I had some Polk coax's in my old car. They sounded great - they sounded even better when they were amped. They only got removed to make room for my Memphis Components . Man I miss the front stage on that car...
