Need Buying advice for an 00 Se

I'm looking at a 00 SE Superblack with gray leather, Meridian, all options, with only 15k miles. Dealer has it listed at $20995. What do you think would be a reasonable offer below that price. Edmunds trade in value is $17k and blue book is $15. Thanks for the help

Then you probably wouldn't get it. You can't find one on a dealer lot around here for less than 20k, and that's what they are selling for. But, you could be in a different market. I have the same car, bought it like 5 months ago for 17,700. If it has all the options, and 17" rims, AND you can get it for 17K, I'd buy it. Most of the black ones are black on black. Black on grey is harder to find. The original sticker on that car was probably around $29,000.

Saw you are from IA. Just moved to Chicago from Iowa City. Crazy. Anyway, I am concerned with the depreciation that will trickle down from the 2k3 after the 2k4 comes out. Tell me about your vehicle and if you have been happy with it. Thanks

Re: Hey

*** Yeah, things are bit different in Chicago, huh.
Iowa City is a fun town. I've spent many Saturdays on Melrose. (No so much anymore...NO PASSOUTS)

As far as my Max? I love it. It' been great. Mine is 2000 SE 5 spd, black/gray leather, meridian, 17", comfort and convenience, sun roof, bose, heated seats, and whatever else....I'm pretty sure I got all of the options. (Maybe not). I have no dillusions that this car will hold its value like my Accord did, or my Civic will. But, oh what a difference.

I've seen some 2K2's in the newspaper for as low as $22.5, which is what I paid for my car (a 2K SE) last year. Please do search and save yourself lots of headaches. As much as the 5Th Gen MAx is a geat bang for the buck(Leather, 17"wheels, sport suspension, In dash cd), it has lots of manufacturer defects that most of us have had to go up against the dealer to try and have corrected, with very little satisfaction, ex.(brakes, bumper paint, faulty windshield, faulty Bose HU(they're actually made by Clarion for Nissan), and even tranny problems. Great car, fast car but, BUYER BEWARE.

dont listen to them. because of some VERY low mileage, this car is well worth 18 grand at the dealer's. Hell, it would probably be sold by a private party for 17.5-18 grand, and sold at the dealers auction for at least 17. Make them an offer of 17.5 and see what they will tell you. You can save a grand and a half if you pick the same car with 30-40K mi.

I've seen one at the dealer's new for that. Oh wait that was mine. At the time there was a $1000 cash back on top of an "under invoice quarter end blowout" (or something like that). I also bought a bone stock SE with no options except floor mats, 30 days after my mother bought hers from the same dealer...

That is really low milage. I've found that edmunds.com was always dead on when it came it to it's pricing. Used and new I've relied on them for my entire family. If a dealer sees you come in, with your homework done its better for both of you. He can sell the car quickly, turn an honest profit and get to the next buyer.

15mo's ago I paid $18,500 for my loaded SE with only 10k miles on it! You should base buying a used car from a dealer with this in mind: Get the trade in value and add 1000-1500 bucks and there you go! Thats what I did, my trade in value at the time was 17,200, and I told them I would not give them more than 18,500. I you buy a 2000 SE for 20k now(3 yrs old already), you will still be upside down 4yrs from now. Just imagine have a 7 yr old car that you will still owe about 7-9k dollars on.

For 20K I would probably buy this max

It may be sound like a good deal, but no insurance company will issue a full liability insurance on the salvaged title car. Car like Maxima is likely to be broken in, or stolen. That way you can't protect your investment. Besides that, there are likely to be mechanical issues with your car. It takes (in damage) about 3/4th of vehicles' book value. Now you can imagine how much was an estimate on your car, we're talking at least 15K in damage. Ahem, we all know that a car with 15K in damage was seriously f**ed up, and don't be b.s.'ing us it is fixed and rides just like any other Max out there.

So dont think you got a great deal overall, because there are trade offs.

I wouldn't pay more than $20K for a 2000 fully loaded. I got my 2001 Maxima SE fully loaded for $21K in February. It was brand new with only 21 miles on the odometer sitting behind 10 new 2002's and I asked the saleman the deal with that car and he told me that it was leftover from 2001, so I made him a deal and I got my fully loaded Max.
