trip button on steering wheel not working after custom stereo install

I have a 2002 SE w/o Bose system. I recently installed an aftermarket stereo using Crutchfield installation kit. The trip button on the left side of the steering wheel that that scrolls through mpg/average speed/dte...etc. is not working anymore. The display just shows the temperature. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Let me jump in before the flames start.

When you removed the Bose stereo there was a connector with 4 or 5 wires that you are not using now. Take the brown wire with a white stripe and ground it. Don't cut it from the harness, just get a 3M wire tap so you can return it to stock if / when you sell the car. Find a ground point on bear metal in the dash behind the radio.

Oh, this can be found in a search (had to add that for the impending flame throwers)

Thank you very much. I'm new to this forum stuff, but will figure out the different options with time. Thanks again.

Anytime. The audio forum is great for this stuff, you will get quicker replies in there.

Oh, I've got a 2k3 and have done a lot with the stereo PM me if you have any questions.
