Maxima - A beautiful thing

I just want to take a minute or two out of tonight and leave a positive post(rant), contrary to most on this forum latly.

I love to drive my Maxima. Yeah, it rattles a little... yeah it has paint chips... yeah the stereo is not perfect. Yet, its a car. It is made to carry me from point A to B with some comfort and style. It is NOT made to make me nit pick about little discrepencies, or complain about some possible lacking qualities. I chose this car above all the rest in the price range BECAUSE of all of its wonderful features, style, performance, and reliability. I now own a car that is incredibly fun to drive, quick as hell, and looks fantastic. Driving is now more enjoyable because of all of the Max's features. In fact, show me a better bang for my buck. It doesnt matter what others think or say because this... is a great car.

Are we going anywhere in particular with this thread?

Or are we just gonna talk about things we enjoy? If that's the case, this will probably turn into a porno lovers thread before too long.

I see Maxima.org as a place to write about, discuss, and gather information about anything related to maximas. What is wrong about posting something about what I like about the car? People post ALL THE TIME about how terrible Nissan's service is... and that doesnt necessarily go anywhere. Damn, I thught someone would appreciate a positive post. Guess not.

I was thinking the same thing when I was driving mine last night.

I've never owned a car that didn't have some problems. The difference is there was no forum to listen to everyone elses problems. Now it's alomost like the issues that everyone else have become mine.

Can I get an Amen? I totally agree. I am a previous Accord owner and have been extremely happy with my 00 Max. The pros most definitely, outweigh the cons!

Yes! I love the Max. Maxima.org is great! I wouldn't have dumped so much money into my car, or get great knowledge and experience from everyone else on here. I don't know which is better, my Max or the org. Hmmm.....

But yeah where can you get a car like the Max in it's price range? Pretty much nowhere....at least none that I can think of.

.

Don't stop beacause others sneer. I felt the same Thursday and Friday driving in the snow. Yeah the car is not perfect but I really enjoy driving, especially with the stereo cranked up. I think the Max is the best value for the buck out there. Several professional reviewers have written about this point in the last year.

Face it, negative comments are inevitable with all things mechanical.

me too

I'm impelled to add my $.02.
In the past 7 years I've had several new and one used car...
a '96 Subaru Outback
a '95 Passat GLX (VR6) (bought used)
a '00 Accord EX (4 cyl)
and now the '03 Maxima SE.

They all had 5-spd manuals except the Maxima, which has the 6 spd.

Certainly the Maxima is the most expensive, though they are all in pretty much a similar class.

Objectively the Passat was the nicest car to drive - best steering feel, lovely rev-mad engine. But the damned thing had a habit of sucking up $300~$1500 in repairs with every oil change. Starter motor at 48 k miles... ongoing problems with power windows... cruise control sort of just quit... several recurring electrical problem, meaning that it wasn't just a defective part but rather marginal design. After a bout with the clutch slave cylinder that disabled the car twice I gave up. Oh yeah, the a/c leaked too.

The Accord and the Outback were mechanically better but completely lacking in personality or enjoyable driving feel. The Outback was noisy, underpowered and the seats left me just about crippled. (though the AWD was a great feature.) The Accord's shift linkage was balky and the engine had a very nasty fuel shutoff that made smooth shifts impossible in my normal driving conditions (if you revved it over 5000 rpm before shifting you could be smooth, but that is a bit much for daily commuting in Boston traffic.) And the controls on the Accord, particularly the steering, were made to feel "smooth" by putting in a lot of friction and resistance to motion, so that they felt "dead smooth" - emaphasis on "dead."

And the Maxima? I love it! The seats are comfortable. The engine is smooth and powerful - maybe a little less powerful than it's supposed to be but it gets out of its own way. The steering feels right. The ride at high speed on a smooth road has that glassy feel that to me makes a trip so much nicer. So far in 8k miles there have been a few problems but they seem to have been more careless assembly than design flaws. Is it ergonomically perfect? No, far from it, but Nissan got the major controls right and that is what counts with me. I like the feature set too - the heated seats, the HID headlights and the electrochromic mirror are things that really make a drive go easier for me. It all works for me and I love to drive the car.

Count me a satisfied owner, and as you can see I have tried the competition. The Maxima has its minor frustrations - what doesn't? - but overall I think this car is a keeper.

The Max is better than the org (not hatin on the org) because if it wasn't for the Max there would be no org.
Anyway Aux is absolutely right, I love my car and I probably have the most mileage on a 00 Max than anyone in the country (at least from what Nissan told me) and my car has performed flawlessly, no problems except crappy trans that I changed out at 67K, since then no problems.
It's good to hear some praise instead of always the negative.

Thanx all for the reply! Great to see people enjoying what some of us spend entirely too much time driving, modding, or "ORGing"
