Attached to the sub on the passenger's side is a brown (or grey) connector with 4 wires. You can unplug the sub there. The rest of the system will work fine without it, as that's what I did when I installed my subs. The factory harness wiring can stay attached to the car, and the sub will come out with no problem. However, remember that you have to remove the grille inside the cabin to remove the sub. I've also seen some years where you have to remove the back seat and the rear deck lid to get to the screws. I didn't remove the sub (just unplugged it) so I can't tell you if you'll have to remove the seat or not. Good luck.

just pop the plastic bose grill on the rear deck, and you'll have access to the bolts holding the sub in.
