Maxima 2001 Question, Please help

This is my first post . I do not know much about cars . I got a Maxima GLE in Oct 2000 .
I have driven 21900 miles in it . When I went to my dealer for a regular service last week ,
he suggested me to replace my brake's , both the brake pads and the rotors .
I was not sure if these parts will wear out this soon and hence asked him if it
is really necessary. He said yes. I was reading this forum and one of the posts talked about
"TSB for the brake judder". I did remember that The front brakes made rattling noise some times
when i applied brakes suddenly.

Since I did not know much and security was my first priority ,
I asked my dealer to replace the brakes. It costed me $800 .

After reading your forum and couple of other web sites I thought
I was ripped off by my dealer.

I want to know --

1.If these parts are covered under the warranty ?
2.Has anybody else in this form had problems with thier brakes ?
3.Will this TSB apply to the problem I had ?
4.Where can i find the TSB

I want to take up this case with Nissan and complain about my dealer to Nissan.

Thanks,

Re: Maxima 2001 Question, Please help

First of all, I beleive your brakes should be covered under your 3 year/36K mile bumper to bumper warranty. I had rotors that warped at 25K miles and then again at 30K miles, and the Nissan dealer replaced them under warranty. I don't think that the warranties changed at all from my 1998 Maxima to your 2001.

Second of all, $800 is a RIP OFF. Did they replace all four rotors and pad sets? I would hope so for all that money...

I would definitely take this up with Nissan Consumer Affairs (I think their number is 1-800-Nissan-1). It sounds like your Nissan dealer isn't very reputable. I would go to another one from now on, even if you have to travel a distance. It also doesn't hurt to get a second opinion on things like that.

I think www.Autobytel.com has a section in their site that shows outstanding service bulletins for vehicles by year/make/model.
Good luck my friend.

before anything, why did he say the brakes needed replacing? bad pads or rotors and did he show you any of the bad parts either on the car or off?

the tsb covers bad rotors that cause brake judder which occurs if you went up highway speeds and applied the brake firmly and the steering wheel shakes. the warped rotors are covered under the tsb for 36k miles. i had mine replaced at 9k. they cut the rotors and replaced the pads and i havent had any issues as of yet. im at 23k by the way. you can find the tsb by going to yahoo and typing a search for auto recalls. the national transportation website will be one of the results, just enter in the cars info and look for a tsb on the brakes. if you go back to the dealer and they say so sorry, give 1-800-NISSAN1 a call and file a claim. ive had very good experiences with them. i still cant believe they charge 800 for pads for the front.

They told me that some thing got stuck between the rotor and the pads and hence the rotors/pads got damaged. They did not show me the bad parts .

Thanks,

wow, i cant believe the service guy actually said that. i mean i can believe it but it just amazes me. im sure the old parts and whatever non-existent thing between them are long gone. i dont know how "something" could get caught if some was there, it might get comprssed against the rotor then it would come off. i would try to handle it with the service manager first.

here you go. i would definitely call NNA, and get something done. 800 is a lot for you to have to pay when you weren't supposed to. i would personally rail that dealer for as much as i could because it really seems as if they intentionally cheated you.

Update

I got back to my dealer (Marlboro Nissan , MA ) today . I asked them about TSB-NTB000-88A . They said they know about it , but still will not be able to help me out because , my pads were worn out which caused the bad rotors. Since pads were not covered in the warranty they cannot refund the money .
Its a issue of a pads ,which is not in the warranty breaking the rotors which are covered under warranty. I am yet to hear from Nissan.

Thanks a lot for all who replied and educated me with this issue.
This forum is a great place for information regarding Maxima's .

well, im not saying every dealer is out to get you but how do they know the bad rotors didnt cause the pads to go bad. thats what happened in my case and is why they cut the rotors and put new pads on. how can they prove which happened first, perhaps there is a way to know but im unaware of it.
