JIC Ride Problems......please help

I just installed these on my 2k2. I have the dampening set to zero. Also I have loud clunking noises coming from the rear when I hit a substaintial bump(like a pothole, or a raised walkway). kinda like a "hollow" thud. Does anybody have any sugg. I will be taking the wheels off tomorrow to adjust the height, and while I am there I will check to see if everything is in place. Any help????

Check your tire look for rub marks or cuts im not having any problems what so ever. I will help you with any questions you have. What kind of tool did you use to measure the height and preload of each coilover? It's hard for me to determine what could be the problem just by the little info you gave me. If I had to make a assumption it is either the spring has play in it, or the upper bolts aren't tight,or the car is sitting to low. If the spring isn't set correctly it will cause the strut to fully extend and make a thud sound especially if you have it set to zero dampening. When you check the spring preload make it have zero play and add a 1/4" to it then measure it and make sure the other side is exactly the same use calipers or some type of measure device and try to be within +/-1/8".

Could it be the RSB hitting? I know that is something that I'm going to be adjusting during coilover install to make sure I don't have any problems with it.

That is EXACTLY what it sounds like.

Which one do you have?

The Addco's brackets that attach to the beam stick out a little bit where the bolts go through and it is possible for them to hit, on the passenger side, the mechanism that allows for vertical movement in the beam. Move them towards the center a bit and/or grind the bracket down a bit.

I believe its part#13 in the diagram of the rear suspension that it is hitting.

Do you how easy it is to manipulate the beam and determine whether or not its going to hit with the rear struts out? I'm hoping I will be able to get underneath and jack it up and see directly whether my current settings will cause a problem with the car lowered.

I don't have that bar, so I couldn't tell you. However, there are plenty of threads on that bar around, so use the search.

BTW, you should see the marks if it is hitting.

Did a JIC dealer install them??? These should not be installed by someone who doesn't know how to tune or install twin perch coilover systems. It's not hard. Just need to know what's up. Cause you could damage it. That's a lot of money to waste. you should contact your dealer. That's their job and shows for customer service.

A couple of brief pointers.

You just barely want preload on the springs.

Tighten the pillowball nut all the way. and I guess look into that RSB problem.

Are you talking about the Nissan dealership? laugh, you would be truly lucky to find a dealer willing to install them. Or are you talking about who he purchased them from? Either way you seem to be a JIC guy, welcome to the org.
