Well I already ordered the Warpspeed Y. But if this comes out and it's really $500 or less...hm...

But doesn't the y-pipe give a gain of 30 HP. If not what was the gain on the y-pipes. And if it's about the same gain, are the headers worth it?

I also talked to Dean and he said that the Stillen flux capacitor should be ready for the Maxima in 6 weeks too along with the turbo diesel setup for those that want serious torque.
Dave you're way behind man, i've had the flux capacitor setup going for a couple weeks now. I already went back to the 60s and picked up some really cheap domestics

Cattman announced he'd be working on equal length headers for the VQ30 in both the 4th and 5th gen's...we'll see how that shapes up.

I don't remember reading about that much HP off a y-pipe, but stillen's HP rating are still unknown...so a good question..how much more horsepower is the header going to add on top of the y-pipe?

I hope someone else gets it done first.

I guess they use the same pulleys.

Since I'm going off topic thought you might find this interesting. These are the part numbers for the crankshaft pulley in the Maxima and Altima according Daveb

Joe-
Here ya go-

95-01 Maxima VQ30- 12303-31U10
02-03 Maxima, 02-11/02 Altima VQ35- 12303-8J101
11/02+ Altima, '04 (!) Maxima- 12303-7Y000

Hope this helps!

-David

Thought it was interesting that what appears to be the 2003 Altima and the 2004 Maxima have different pulleys than the 02-03 Max.

i had headers installed on my old car ('94 camry) and they did make a difference in noise and hp... but they made the check engine light come on. My question is: the mechanic that installed them said that by triggering the check engine light, something in the car's ECU gets adjusted, which affects the efficiency/power that it was producing. the problem was due to an O2 sensor taken out i think - i'm not that familiar with the Max's exhaust, but i'm assuming there is an O2 sensor that will get removed due to the removal of the cat... will this, in turn, affect the hp negatively as i was told by the mechanic? or is it a different situatino with Max? or maybe he was wrong all together? if nothing bad is to come from the installation of headers, i'm all for them, provided they're dyno'd and show signifcant gains.

Quick question about headers. Do you have to drop the engine to install them. I know these stillen headers will not fix my 2k. But i have found a pair that do an i cannot find a right up on the install. Anyone know? Are they a direct bolt on, or do i need to drop the engine to change them?

When you say drop the engine, what do you mean by that?
If you mean remove it from the engine compartment, the answer is no.
If you mean remove it from the engine cradle....well, Stillen headers do not come in one piece with the Y like OBX, so the answer is still no.

This means that the install is much like replacing exhaust manifolds. Your best bet is getting them from the bottom.

But, if I were you, I would stay away from Stillen headers.

thanks a lot. So im guessing with the others i would have to take the engine out of its mounts.

You don't take the engine out of anything. You just remove the lower subframe and mounts so that you have room to work with.

It seems you tried (and failed horribly at) using the search feature by finding this thread, but I can promise you there are numerous threads that will answer all your questions about headers, the different brands, and how they are installed...
