Hayes Repair Manuals...any good?

I saw in Pep Boys that they finally have a Hayes repair manual for 1993-2001 Nissan Maximas for $15. Anyone have one and thinks its worth pickin up?

I had a Hayes for my 93 Altima and it was great. They are good for folks who don't have a lot of technical expertise--there are pictures for nearly every step of the process. If you plan to do brakes/suspension/belts/radio they are pretty well written.

Why do you think that? Is it not informative enough?

If you are a DIY it will help with basic repairs and a lot of the common questions seen here.

A FSM is much better but a lot more expensive.

Haynes is great! I have one for my 2k GLE. I use it in conjuction with the Nissan Manual. The Nissan Manual is more technical and is great at providing information on breakdown of component systems and troubleshooting. The Haynes is good for basic maintenance and repair and is easy to follow and understand. They have a lot of pictures in it too.

I would suggest getting both and using them together as a reference for one another. I tend to use my Haynes more for maintenance, and then the Nissan when I need to troubleshoot, or pull something apart.

I know where you can get a copy of the Nissan Electronic (CD) Manual for REALLY inexpensive...e-mail me at foodmanry@hotmail.com

I'd really like to get either a Chilton or Haynes manual for a 2002/3 Max once it comes out.

In the meantime, can you post how much the Nissan CD manual is?

Thanks.

Haynes manual says 93-01. I didn't see any info for 5thgens..

I used it thinking it would help me with my walbro FP install. It didn't say anything about the fuel pump assembly being completely different between a 4th and 5thgen. Where the 5thgen had the fuel pump sitting inside a plastic container that was near impossible to disassemble....
Toylet ran into an electrical problem. It wasn't helpful with that either. And where's the information on the VIS?
You wont find anything 5thgen related inside the pages.
Talk about misadvertising. They shoulda said 93-99.

It's nothing in compariason with a Nissan FSM.

Well Haynes is more tuned to minor maintenance of items such as spark plug changes, radiator flush, auto and manual tranny drain, suspension, brakes, etc. The more complicated things like the fuel regulator and the electrical are better left to the FSM since it deals with the 2k, and 2k1 years only. But as I said before...using both in conjunction is ideal I believe.
