Engine noise around 2500 rpm

I am definitely an amateur when it comes to automobiles. I wanted to warn people about that first.

I have a 2002 Maxima SE (manual). At about 2500 rpm it sometimes makes a noise. The best that I can describe it is as a gurgling noise. Is this considered a rattle? I only hear it at low acceleration. It is quiet enough to be covered by the radio, but it is still annoying.

When I took it to the dealer, they were unable to hear it. Unfortunately, it is not always there, so I can understand them missing it. They may have tested it at a higher acceleration, too.

I found these on the forum which may be the same, but I live in Austin (a little warmer).

2) http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....t=engine+noise

Does anyone have any idea what it may be? Any suggestions I can take to the dealer for them to look for?

sounds like they put a Duratec V6 in your Maxima....

jk, but really, I haven't heard of such a problem....good luck dealing with the dealer..Nissan service will try to say nothing is wrong with your car...even if it IS making the noise when they are looking at it.

Switch brands of gas. Go to Shell.

...again

i think you're having the same issue as this

a possible solution is to try another gas. i've been using shell for the longest time and lived with the rattling for a good 9 months. just recently switched to chevron premium and the rattling has almost completely disappeared.

I'll try a different gas. I have been using Exxon (Platinum, Premium, etc.). I just wish your success was better than almost.

"..about.."

heh, i was just being careful with my post. yeah, i wouldn't say the noise has completely disappeared, but MUCH less noticeable now than before with the shell gas. now if i leave the radio off, and gas to about 2500-3000rmp, i could only hear a very faint ticking from the engine--not always, but occassionally. definately an improvement.

my dealer said it may be the inferior gas in the bay area (CA). i called BS when i first heard it, but now i think they just might have guessed right--hopefully.
