Finally fixed rear deck rattle

After putting back my 3 12" and Xtant 1001d, the rear deck rattled BAD. The only way to not hear the rattle was to max out the volume. Last night I decided that I couldn't take it any longer. I removed the rear seat bottom, sides, and plastic pieces to get at the rear deck. I seperated the rear deck lid from the metal but didn't take it out of the car since the seat belts still went through the deck lid. While I had the lid off I removed the stock Bose sub to use that hole as a port, not sure how effective it will be but it couldn't hurt. I also removed the middle seat belt and the anchor points for a child seat. I then used fake Dynamat (the roofing "Peel & Seal") and covered most of the metal deck, using the butt of an exacto knife to get in the corners and to matt it down real well. I flipped the deck lid over and layed .25" carpet pad on it and cut out a rough shape. Then cut holes for the attaching points, remaining seat belts, 3rd brake light, Bose sub hole, and the blue foam supports. I then hot glued the pad to underside of the lid and re-installed it. I put everything back together and remounted all the plastic piece on the lid so it looks like it was never touched. I tested it out this morning on the way to work and there is not one rattle! It actually sounds better, a lot more solid. This weekend I'm going to line the inside of the trunk and the license plate to fix the exterior rattles. A good cheap night of fun.

About the bose sub. I was thinking, could it be BETTER to leave it in place unpowered and use it as a baffle/resonator to the real subs? PLus I feel it would benefit as added weight to the rear deck to hold that sucka down. Or is the port the way to go? Just a thought....

I think I like it ported like that. With the carpet pad and Dynamat under the lid, that's enough to keep all the rattles away/ Plus, the weight of the sub won't matter because it bolts to the metal deck and not the hardboard lid.

No, I kept everything inside stock. I ordered this: http://www.go2pac.com/oem1kits/aoemr...or+AOEM-1+kits so I can use RCAs, but it hasn't arrived yet so I had to tap into the Bose speaker to get the signal. I am going to upgrade the tweeters in the A-pillars though. I do have the Bose sub in the basement now, but I think I will keep it in case I ever sell the car.

I hade mine on there for a day after my sub install and all I heard was distortion. Removing it was the best thing I ever did. The port is a nice way for the bass to get into the cabin and as far as the weight holding the deck down it only weighs 2 lbs. at best. My advice, get rid of the whole system...I did and mine sounds awesome!

Doesn't that gives u a rather not strong of a signal as if you had a RCA out from the back of an aftermarket HD? How do u live with that?
btw, what gauge wires are u using for the wire that goes from the factory sub to ur amp?

The signal is fine. I think it could be better (cleaner) if I ever get the harness.

Regular (but thick) speaker wire that merges into RCAs. All that will be scrapped when the harness arrives.
