Has anyone actually used their valet key?

I tried my valet key for the first time yesterday and in the ignition, it would turn the engine over but would not start it.

Has anyone tried theirs and had a similar problem?

Maybe the key has to be programmed or something...

Thanks for your input!!

Mine works fine. Whenever I bring the car to the dealer, that is the key that I leave with them.
Same thing goes when I valet the car at Foxwoods. I lock the seats so they can't be folded down, shut off the trunk release, and lock the glove box.

could someone explain the point of the valet key besides the fact that it's red and can't open the glove box or trunk?

I mean the valet person can just open your car door and pop the truck thru the release hatch inside.

Not if you lock the trunk release.

In the trunk, there is a switch next to the latch assembley. By switching it up or down determines if the trunk release will work. If the switch is engaged, you will still hear the pop of the latch but it will not release.

Downside to this is that the trunk release on your key fob is also disabled. You will need to open the trunk with your regular key.

ms.thicknes,

Thanks for your help. That is exactly what I am planning on doing. So, if I can only get my Bose unit to act up while it is at the dealership......

I've used mine downtown (Atlanta) for several occasions. Works fine. The dealer actually tested it in the parking lot for me when I purchased the car.

I use my valet key everyday (to warm up the car because it's still c-c-c-cold here).

Also, at the parking structure I park at, sometimes you have to leave a key so rather than hand over my key fob, I give them the valet key.

same here

when I take my car in for any work they also get the valet key

and once I lock the seats so they can't fold and disable the trunk release I feel better

cause if anything goes missing after I do that IN FULL VIEW of whomever is working on the car.....the shop is damm well responsible for the theft!

Me too

No need for the dealer to get their greasy paws all over my stuff. That and I've got a ton of stereo equipment that I don't feel Nissan techs are smart enough to be around.

Man...

That is some of THE BEST advice I've heard in a while!

My car is filled w/ so many things that I'd hate to lose.
