How Many MAFs have ya blown ?

How many of you guys have had MAFs go bad ? State if the car has a POP or CAI or stock. I'm looking for all 5th gen owners to step up. I'm trying to get something going here with Nissan, I just crapped out another MAF today- I'm on my 5th one with 52K miles on my 01 5spd GXE. My first MAF went at 37K miles.... lately its every month. I used to work for Nissan so I got some connections inwithing the coorporation.

I am still on my original MAF. I had a K&N drop in for a while and now have had a Frankencar midpipe and Apexi intake for over 15k miles... no MAF failures, or check engine lights relating to the MAF ever.... this is on a 2k maxima...

U should have tried it in the test post forum to see how it would have turned out. Yo Ethan, if I do end up gettina 2k3, u think it would be a good idea to swap the MAF or it wont make a diff, im askin u cuz I remember uve done this be4.

This may sound stupid, but please educate me. What is a MAF, where is it, and how would I know it is gone bad. Also what are the signs it is going bad. Thanks a lot.

The MAF is the Mass Air Flow sensor. It sits behind the air box or if u have an intake behind the filter. Here's link to a pic of 1.

On the first pic its the sensor that well right behind the airbox, has a plug into it wirh approx 6 wires. If it goes bad well ur car doesnt run too well, if it runs at all. I havnt had mine ever go out so I wouldnt know.

Just talked to my buddy whos a Engineer at Nissan, he tells me CAI should have no effect on the MAF, but there is a updated MAF and ECU program that Nissan dealers should know about. I have the updated MAF and ECU program since the 1st MAF went out this summer after I put in the ACT clutch and destroyed the MAF with some mad wheel hop. He was talking to the engineer over in the engine electronics department and the dude told him that hes going to look into it and lemme know, we talk to eachother on daily basis. On a side note I have gotten almost a week out of this MAF and its going good. U can't detect a MAF going bad, they eighter work or don't. When it goes bad, it will not let U rev past 2400RPM, it will cut fuel and spark at anything above 20% throttle- basically the car will die out with anything above 2400RPM and 20% throttle. MIL light will be on. My one MAF died and the car would not even run and no MIL light- I plugged in my scanner and found out that the MAF readings where .82V at all times even when idleing for a short time - 4 secs and it will die. I guessed it was a MAF right away... poped in a new MAF, car ran like new again.
