00 GLE Tranny repairs - success

I was suffering badly from a 1-2 and 2-3 slip on my 00 GLE with 70k on it (acquired in Feb). When I took it back the 2nd time for work when the weather was warmer and they couldn't use the "its 'cuz of the cold" excuse, their tranny guy test drove it and said it was the High Clutch.

When I got it back, the 1-2 slip was still there but the 2-3 slip was gone. Their tranny guy wanted me to drive it for just over a week to let the "part break in". Turns out he was right, steadily, with continued use, the 1-2 slip went away, and now seldom happens at all (once in 3 days, 2 weeks after the fact).

One negative thing is that my gas mileage has gone way down I'm driving even harder than before!!!

Oh, yeah, they forgot to quote me for the High Clutch assembly so I got off easy too!

so you had this problem for the entire 70k miles on your car?

how much did you pay for the repair?

Well, i've had the problem fro the entire time I had the car, but I bought it used in Feb for a good price (because it had the miles on it). The repair cost me about $375 US (converted from cdn cost incl tax -- without the 50/50 warranty and their covering the cost of the High clutch assembly, it would have been about $1200 US tax in).

375 is not too bad. the problems of your tranny are mentioned in the TSB. but you are out of the warranty anyway

glad you got it fixed.
