New car's FIRST oil change?

Hi all...in need of some advise from Maxima owners who've been through it already. I got a brand new automatic 2k3 SE, currently has about 60 miles on it. I've already determined (with the help of Forum members ) that I should wait until about 10,000 miles to switch from regular oil to Amsoil or Mobil1 synthetic. But what about the first oil change? Some people have told me not to change the oil AT ALL until around 5,000 miles. Others have said change it at about 1,000 miles because of the breaking in of the engine. To me it would make since to change it at about 1,000 if there's going to be alot of crap in it due to the breaking in, but at the same time I don't want to mess anything up with the breaking in of the engine. What's everyone's opinion on this? Thanks.

Doing a change at 1000 miles won't hurt anything. (I've done that on any new car I've had) If there is 'crap' in there, it is good to get it out. You can check by dragging a magnet through the drained oil to see if anything sticks. Just make sure you use a clean drain pan.

But many have waited till Nissan's recomendation of 3750 miles with no ill effects.
