never use valet

i was at a formal this weekend and the hotel we stayed at had mandatory valet for $9 a day. i never use valet and would rather walk a mile than have my car parked by valet but i didnt want to look like a cheap *** so i did it. sure enough, last night i put my key in my ignition and it wouldnt fit 100%, i had to jam it in there. i tried putting it in the other way and it goes in easier, but not butter smooth like it used to. any way to fix this without having to get a new key?

Yeah, it always works out there way too. One time my mom had her suburban valet parked and they brought it back to us with a cracked side-view mirror, and scratches all along the side of it. To make it worse, they didnt even say anything to us but on the way home my dad noticed the cracked mirror, adn when we noticed the scratches when we got home. Apparently the driver underestimated a turn, and scratched the side of our car against the brick wall in which he was turning against. We threatened to sue if all damages weren't paid, and they ended up immediately firing the driver and paying all of it. Thankfully I have never allowed my car to be valet parked, and I'm a lil wary of taking my car to the workers at Danny's family car wash too...

Yea, I NEVER use valet parking. Not that I frequently go to places where it is available but you are just asking for trouble when you hand over the keys to your car to someone else. One time I went to a wedding and they had this valet parking guy. My brother and I ended up getting all kinds of attitude from him when we didn't let him park our cars. Oh well, my car...not yours....deal with it

As far as being manditory, I would make such a big stink with the manager they wouldn't want to touch my car. NYC parking garages are the only place I go to that have to park your car. Luckilly, that's what the beater is for.

Is your key busted or is it the ignition? Either way you are in to spend some $$$.

If you feel cheap not using the valet, you can give the guy a couple bucks and park the car yourself. That way he gets his money. Otherwise, F them...you earned your car and your money...keep them!

I used to know some people who did valet, and that's the reason why I would NOT let them park my car. The stories they told me were more than enough to make me look for parking twice as long, rather than leave the car in the valet (nothing to do with being cheap).

The few minutes those punks have the car, they will beat the living **** out of it! And if you have a manual, some of them learn to drive manuals by using customers' cars, so go figure what happens!

Don't you have a valet key? that way, if he f*&ks it up, you still have your other two good key sets.

Not ALL valets are bad... and MOST companies will account for any damage (especially when threatened by legal action)... what you have to watch is any personal belongings. My g/f had a pair of sunglasses stolen by a valet

Maybe not, but who wants to play Russian Roulette with their car HOPING to get a good one?

Even if they make good, the car is still damaged. Period. And it should not be.

Who gives a crap what they think?! Not like they are paying the car note (or are they?). If anyone of them has an issue with that being a sign of being cheap, get rid of her quickly. That is only going to be the tip of the 'issue iceberg'.

JJS, that's an "older person" response. When you're young, you care a LOT about what girls think, especially if you have high hopes for the after-the-dance session!

well people know im obsessed with the max. and whenever i talk about it they tell me to stop talking about it because im obsessed. i figured lets hope for the best and not make me pick a fight with the valet while 30 of my friends are watching. trust me i tried not using the valet, i parked in one of the valet spots when i pulled up not knowing their was valet, then they told me about the "mandatory valet" policy.

Hey, you get up there a bit and you are still looking for the 'after the dance', you are just more selective in who you go home with.

Totally, but when you're in college, your standards are subpar, if you know what I mean, and you work with what you have.

that policy def. hold true here at UF. but see i had a really pretty girl so i guess it was worth it to mess up my key. ha ha, there are tradeoffs to anything.

staying ot here: yeah here girls are abundant but the hott/decently hott girls to girl ratio is about 1:10. so when you find a pretty one, you make sacrafices.

Not me, I'm just more selective who I call back

Actually, when I was younger I used to get hotter women than I do now. I just don't have the patience to deal with "high-maintanance" chicks anymore which all hot ones are
