I noticed today that when I was cruising at about 50 and floored it, there was a slow pickup in acceleration. When I cut if off o/d and floored it, the max responded nicely. I don't understand why they didn't make the ECU smarter than what it is now. It doesn't make since for you to floor it, and the car still stay in 4th gear. That's nissan for you though. Also, the car shifts at 6100 when peak horse is @ 6500. This ECU should when the award for the best ECU every designed. I'm joking, hopefully you caught that

Just venting

All those times I could have pulled away from people while cruising. If only I'd known.

hmmm?

My transmission shifts are very responsive. I drop the throttle at 50mph ( even with O/D on ) and the tranny instantly drops to 2nd in a blink of an eye. I do the same thing at 65mph. It drops into 2nd gear. Do the same thing at 75mph. It drops instantly into 3rd gear. The only thing I hate about the transmission is when the car is at 30mph, I floor it and it doesn't want to downshift to 1st gear. Accords and Camrys do it! Why can't Maxima's?

I belive the computer learns your driving habits and adjusts the transmission to shift based on your driving style. I could be wrong, but it sounds like it should make sense..Yes? Maybe? Ok?

yes, the car reads your habits, and adjusts to the way you drive. I like this

It also notes in the drivers manual that when you pass a car or are going up a hill, turn the OD off for a "boost" of extra power. I usually have mine on all the time, and turn it off when i stop at a red light, then turn it back on once i feel it shift between 2nd and 3rd gear.

How do I train my car to drop gears when I floor it.

Also, My mom drives it too, but I drive the most. (She drives conservative). But even with that, it should have already trained itself to shift.

It obviously knows that it should pay more attention to your mom's driving than yours and has adjusted itself accordingly for self preservation.

yeah and give me YOUR car for that week.. j/p

well actually it was safety feature designed for fobs like me. because of the dog meat we eat our nerve receptors aren't all that great. Thus we can't feel the gas pedal and plant our foot into the darn thing hoping to just scoot a few feet slowly.

at certain speeds in 4th gear, when you floor it the transmission will not downshift itself for a reason.. long term reliability. Same goes for 3rd gear. There are shift maps inside the tranny ecu that have algorithims and a bunch of other parameters that tell when/how the transmission will shift.

You can reset your ECU and the drive your car like you just stole it to probably get the ECU to use the 'aggressive' part of its program.

Is the inteligent ECU stuff true, it's really hard to believe. Does anyone have a documentation on this behavior. Or do all ECU do this??

An ECU is adaptive to a certain extent. For example, when you add an intake to your car, you must reset the ECU. The ECU will eventually adjust the amount of fuel delivered to match the increase air flow. This is true for other mods as well. I have noticed it with the shifting of the transmission also. If you push your car, the ECU will adjust to your driving habits to a certain extent. It won't be a radical change, but it will adjust.

My transmission downshifts even at 25-30mph to first gear just by stepping on it. I do believe the computer learns your driving style. My car downshifts to first gear prematurely when I just roll on 2nd gear, it will downshift to 1st gear even at 3/4 throttle. It is a little annoying at times but would rather have that than the opposite.

I do noticed a bit of difference when I turned my overdrive off. Not really that great of an improvement.

Btw, I have a Razo carbon fiber gun grip auto shifter. The problem is the overdrive switch is an awkward position. I have to slide my thumb back a bit to turn it off/on; it's troublesome. Is there a way I can perhaps mount a switch onto the steering wheel for instance for the overdrive?

Resetting the ECU is a simple disconnecting of the battery right?

Also, does anyone know if an ECU "switch" is available...whether its for the 2k or not

If I turned the switch on...it would redo the ECU to shift at 6500 rpm peak H/P

Off...its stock ecu programming..

thanks guys

The easiest way to reset your ECU is to unplug the battery and leave it unplugged for at least 45 mins to an hour. Then, plug the battery back in and let the car idle until it is warmed up.
